Do you actually sleep when camping, or is everyone just pretending they do?

we went camping last weekend and everyone keeps saying how “restful” it was. Meanwhile, I’m there lying awake at 3am listening to every rustle, zipper, and owl within 5 miles.
Kids slept fine (of course), my partner snored through a thunderstorm, and I’m wondering if I’m just not cut out for “peaceful nature”.
Do people genuinely sleep well in tents?

I sleep like a baby under canvas. The trick is sleeping on the ground on a mat or sheepskins and not trying to emulate some kind of wobbly bed arrangement. Also a regular duvet, instead of a sweaty sleeping bag. If you're somewhere nice and remote there's no need for earplugs (presumably to block out the sound of other campers) unless whoever you share the actual tent with is a noisy sleeper.

No, I never sleep camping. Did a couple of weekends and two short breaks and refused to go again. Even if I’m the right temperature and it’s quiet, I’m still wide awake.

Yes i do, no idea why I would lie just because you didnt doesn't mean others do

People have issues sleeping in beds some times doesnt mean everyone is lying if they have a good night sleep in a bed

Haha no. Unless the kids aren't with us and I've got sleeping pills.
If the kids are with us I can survive one night.. but no longer because I do not sleep AT ALL. Even with earplugs, even if I have sleeping pills... and my kids are decent sleepers.
The sad thing is I love camping and could sleep fine pre kids but I'm just too wired now.
If I go camping without kids I still struggle to sleep but can sleep with sleeping pills. But if I'm hiking the next day the overhang from sleeping pills is worse than just not sleeping, when trying to hike

I hate camping, it's so uncomfortable and everything wakes me up. I don't understand the appeal at all and won't do it any more.

I'm a cub leader and did a tent camp once then refused to go again.

My DH reckons companies like Booking.com etc are there so people don't have to use tents. If it rains you can put the heating on in a holiday flat .You have a kitchen and can order a home delivery of a take away meal. I agree also places usually have a lovely bathroom and sometimes 2 or more bathrooms depending on if a friend is invited and the owner doesn't mind. I thought I would add that before anyone advises us not to do that. I always book and give details of who will be there to the owner.

After the first night yes. By then you’re so bloody exhausted
