Take off & landing

Adults suck a sweet to stop their ears popping. Does the same apply for a baby and a dummy, or not? Just worried that my ds (17mths) will not want to eat/drink for 15 mins continuously as we land, but will happily munch on a dummy.

We used to use a dummy for ds at this age and it worked very well. Now that he's a bit older we have taught him to open his jaw wide (yawn) on the way up and blow his nose gently on the way down.

The sucking motion doesn't necessarily need to be continuous anyway as the pressure change is reasonably slow, so long as they suck a bit every few minutes it should be fine.

We flew last year when dd was 2 and this year again now she's 3. She didn't have anything and was absolutely fine.

The ear popping is the best bit!

FLown over thirty times with either or both DS1 ( almost 3) and DS2 ( almost one)... never noticed either of them to sense any particular difference cabins pressure feels pretty constant to me - breastfeed or bottle of milk or dummy as a fall back is a good idea ( although I have been asked to stop breasfeeding for landing IIRC) I would be concentrating more on what entertainment ideas you have for a 17 mo on board!!! Loads of good tips on here have got me through some long haul moments... Enjoy your hols.
