Week at home or week abroad?

I have a week off work. Well, 10 days to be exact. I travel a lot and had a 2 week holiday in August. I currently feel well rested.

I have a work trip to Miami and a city break in Poland both in late November. I also have a week off sun over Christmas.

With this in mind, would you have a week at home and do homely things/day trips or would you go for a last minute week abroad?

I could go to India for the golden triangle or south africa

Depends on where you live and your home and if you’re happy there.

I love where I live and adore my home so given extensive travel planned and in past - I’d stay at home. Potter, catch up with friends, dog walks etc

Abroad every time; home is always there but other countries might not always be readily available.
And UK is a very expensive place for a holiday.

Will you get a visa for India in time?

Abroad.

100% this.

I never, ever waste annual leave on ‘pottering about’. I can do that any weekend.

There’s a world out there! India would be amazing, or anywhere that’s warm right now. We’re going into 5-6 months of cold weather - maximise time in a hotter climate.

I’ve got 4 ‘winter sun’ breaks across Nov-Jan. 🙌

We go abroad for pretty much every day of annual leave, but that’s what we love and why we work. Enough weekends to do things at home.

You will be hard pushed to do the Golden Triangle in a week.

I think it’s important to have some time at home too, potter about the house maybe doing some organising, see friends and family. A walk round shops, stopping for coffee or cake. Lots of walks outside, time for the gym or however you exercise. Not rushing around. Just being. I love it.
Sounds like you already travel well and have lots booked so that’s what i’d do.

Should add i don’t always have full weekends or days off together, work bank holidays and over Christmas/new year ( shiftwork in the NHS). i couldn’t afford to have a holiday every time im on leave. But it’s tiring the whole airport thing and travelling too. We do have a couple of Uk short breaks and one abroad.

I used to use every single day of my annual leave to be ‘away away.’ As I’ve got older, and, crucially, got a dog, I know appreciate time off at home more….so in your shoes I’d probably do a long weekend in my own country then chill for a bit at home.

I believe that you know the answer already. The question you actually wanted to ask was where you should go.

The golden triangle is doable over a week but it will be fast paced. Why not just slow it down and do it over a few trips?

South Africa is ace for both safari, and cuisine and coast line. However, it's either/or for a single week's holiday.

Have you tried Japan?

I would stay at home. Look up what is around your area and do things you haven't done before/haven't done for years.

Book a spa day if that's for you, go for a drive without a particular goal in mind, potter around shops.

DH and I are now child-less (DD started uni) and we discover a lot of things we weren't able to do with her for a variety of reasons. I start blocking one long weekend per month for this now but would love a whole week.

I personally wouldn't go for 1 week somewhere long haul and do a lot of things, relaxing yes, but neither India or South Africa look like you want to spend time and money on sitting at a pool.
