I'm going in February any suggestions for restaurants, attractions would be very welcome.

Public transport is excellent, it is so easy to get around. The city centre is very walkable. If you get a Copenhagen Card you can use it for buses, trains and water taxis as well as get entry to many attractions.

Do a boat trip but wrap up as it will be cold. Take the train to the Viking Ship Museum. You can also very easily take the train to Sweden to Malmo.

Wander round the city looking at the architecture and have frequent stops for coffee to warm up!

We went for four days in August. I really enjoyed the Danish Architecture Centre, the Design Museum and the food halls at Tivoli (as well as the rides!). I would have liked to have done a canal Boat tour but DD2 was not keen. If it’s dry then walk around the park by the zoo, very beautiful and the Kastellan in the city centre.

I also enjoyed the Illusions Museum more than I thought I would! The Copenhagen Card was great value for us but it will depend on what you want to see.

I loved it and definitely want to go back!

The museum in Humlabek (sorry if incorrect spelling) worth a trip.

Icecreamhelps · 26/10/2025 16:20

@BadgerFace@CowKeeper @LlynTegid Thank you, I'm quite excited now. I will make sure I wrap up warm.

Definitely go to Frellsen. They make amazing Flødeboller.
I also recommend Dina Bar Kafe for their hot elderflower lemonade and Conditori La Glace for the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had, with free refill.

I've just googled that, is it where the walnut whip original came from?
Thank you everyone I've gone from feeling nervous to excited.

The Copenhagen card is good value for money if you want to do lots of sites, but cost it up based on what you want to see. If you want to take things slowly and you aren't interested in some of the more expensive places it may not be worth it.

If you fancy eating somewhere a bit posh one night, Aamaans 1921 restaurant does danish food and is Michelin- recommended. I saw a few solo diners eating there the other night. The food hall might also be a good option for solo eating.

Have you looked at "free" walking tours? Those are a good way of meeting people sometimes, or at least having a bit of a chat during the walk if you are up for that!

There's lots to do.

I can’t begin to tell you how bitter it is in February! Wrap up! Take layers as inside tends to be boiling!

How lovely! I'm reminded I want to revisit, so tagging the thread.

Agree with PPs saying it'll be cold. We went in January, via ferry to Esbjerg and drove the car across to Sweden. The sea in the harbour had started to freeze. That's NOT natural where I come from.

Also train to Sweden's easy, although I'd recommend pretty, historic Lund rather than Malmo, personally. (Tetrapak research is done there!)

Icecreamhelps · 26/10/2025 20:29

@CrystalSingerFan the fact you want to revisit is encouraging. I am used to the cold, so know how to dress accordingly. Currently researching trips to Lund thank you all so much for your insights.

My friend did a solo trip here and loved it

AGreenWitch · 26/10/2025 20:35

The Black Diamond museum is not to be missed. Their exhibitions are incredible. Not sure what they’ll have on in February but it’s definitely worth checking.

LousyGolfer · 26/10/2025 20:39

I love Copenhagen- one of my very favourite cities. I was there last year and am heading back next month again.

My recommendations are Tivoli Gardens, a boat trip (if you look for the Netto brand, they’re very cheap and the commentary is great), Torvehalle food hall (go to Slagterlund for one of their famous pork sandwiches), and Reffren which is basically a huge outdoor food market.

It’s a fabulous city for people watching with a coffee.

CowKeeper · 26/10/2025 20:40

I've not been on my own but I would feel totally safe if I were to go solo so don't be nervous! It is a lovely city. As well as the cold be prepared for fog!

SlothCat · 26/10/2025 20:45

I've been there a couple of times on my own and enjoyed it. If you don't want to spend the whole time in the city you can always get the train to Malmo where they have a good castle or up to Helsingor. I'd really recommend Kronberg Castle. I got a Copenhagen card for the day and I think that included the train up to Kronberg and entrance in. Copenhagen Zoo and Aquarium are also really good.

ILoveLukeAlderton · 28/10/2025 20:13

We were there last February, it was unbelievably cold but we had such a good time. Unfortunately Tivoli was closed - not sure if that happens every winter - so we are planning to go back in the summer or autumn. A really lovely city though - felt very clean, very cool and very safe. I want to live there!

If zoos are your thing the one there is amazing.

Redhairandhottubs · 29/10/2025 07:41

Copenhagen’s amazing! It will be very cold in a February though…do you need to go in Feb? If you can be flexible, maybe consider going in the spring/ autumn so it’s a little warmer. Personally, I wouldn’t bother with public transport if you’re physically able and want to stay inside the city - hire a bike instead. Eveyone bikes and there are cycle lanes so it’s really safe. You can cycle round at your leisure and hop on and off when you see something you want to look at.

Christiana Freetown is worth a visit during the day. It’s got a real laid back hippie vibe, I found it interesting and the cafes and bars are much cheaper than the ones in the main city. Food in Copenhagen is ££ but really good!

Doing a boat trip around the harbour and canals is a good way to orientate yourself, I would recommend doing that when you first arrive. Personally wouldn’t bother with Tivoli. It is fun, but it’s expensive and I don’t think it would hold your interest for too long if were on your own. The art gallery is great, as is the natural history museum.
