dh, dd (5) and I are going to the US for a wedding in July. We would like a few days at a beachy sort of place before coming home. Can anyone recommend something? There seem to be plenty of beaches around but not sure whcih would suit us

We are after

Nice calm sea for dd (or a place with a pool)
Hotel or resorty type place with decent food and nice pool

Pref walking distance to beach and restaurants etc

Somewhere not too horrifically crowded

Static caravans not our cuppa really

Don't want beach amusements!

We can go further afield - for somewhere unspoiled and lovely!

When I was a kid we used to visit friends in DC and then travel to an island called Chincoteague. I remember loving it because there were nice beaches and wild ponies. It might have changed a bit now though. A quick google gave me this link.

A few times we drove to North Carolina (a bit of a drive) and went to a fab town called Duck which has a gorgeous beach with wild dolphins (again things could have changed).

If you are willing to travel a little I do remember Duck being pretty special. It is a tiny town but the larger coastal area is called Outer Banks, North Carolina. Try googling that.

We are just looking for somewhere to flop after a week of partying!

Where we can be waited on and not have to do anything but swim and potter on teh beach

Try the above website for some more suggestions.

Cape May at the southernmost point of the Jersey Shore is supposed to be very nice.
