Travel insurance question

Family of 4 going to Cyprus at the weekend so I am sorting our travel insurance now but have a question about my husbands plan beforehand.

Given the time of night, I am hoping one of you can help please from your experience/knowledge :)

Me and 2 children are flying from UK - nice and easy. However, my husband will be flying from another European country as he went away for work this morning and he is going to fly from there at the end of the week to meet us in Cyprus.

As I've started filling in our details, it says "if you've already left the UK at the time of purchasing, you won't be covered". Does this mean he won't be covered as part of our policy? Or does it not matter yet as I will only be asking for cover for the Cyprus part of his trip so I have purchased the policy before he lands there.

Or will they argue he has already started his trip? Even tho I won't be asking for cover for a few more days?

Hope this makes sense.

I actually used to work for a travel insurance company after uni so I should know this! But I also know how strict the wording can be so don't want to get anything wrong.

TIA!

When was the holiday booked? You're supposed to sort the insurance at that point

Not strictly true. This is where an annual policy is much better. I’d phone the insurance company and explain. Is he covered under a company policy for the work part of the trip?

We only booked it last week. We're staying with family.

Yes he's covered under company for work part.

I didn't even think about it until I read that sentence and it's thrown me now as he won't be starting the Cyprus part of his trip from the Uk but I don't need cover until he leaves his current location in the EU.

I'll call the insurance company tomorrow and confirm with them.

You are right to be concerned. There was a case in the press where the insurance company refused to pay out because the injured person had not gone from the UK.
There must be a way round this though as people do multi centre trips.

You need post-departure travel insurance. Google it. There’s a delay to the start of cover but that should be OK if he’s currently travelling on his work insurance.
