South America Trip - 7 nights

Can anyone think of a good place to go to South America for about 7-9 nights? I will be flying business class both ways to help with the jet lag / am used to flying for work and leisure.

I was thinking Mexico City and a few days on the coast? or Buenos Aires with a few days in Mendoza?

Colombia 100%. Cartagena and Medellín. The most amazing places I’ve ever been to

I went to South America years ago and Argentina was my fave! We did 4 days each in BA / Mendoza but could have done more, there is so much to do and you get such a great mix of culture / activities / history with those two. I really want to go back!

Hey Whe,
Loved Buenos Aires for a quick 7-night trip last year—flew business into EZE, which made the jet lag way easier. Spent 4 days wandering the city (don't miss a steak at Don Julio), then hopped a short flight to Mendoza for wine tours and hiking in the Andes. Total vibe shift from urban buzz to chill mountains. Mexico City is epic too, but BA felt more compact for that time frame. What kind of activities are you into? Safe travels!

Spent a week in Mexico City last year. It was amazing, so easy, beautiful city, lots to see, great food, met lots of people travelling on their own, I’d say Oaxaca and Mexico City would be a great choice.

Mexico isn't in South America for a start, so what are you actually looking for from this trip?

Rio? You’ll have time to go to Paraty too. But BA (and OMG, yes, steak at Don Julio) would be fantastic and Mendoza is so chilled. We found internal flights in Argentina tended to be a bit hit and miss though.

See where you can get direct flights to as you are time limited. Not to be pedantic but Mexico is n America, taking into account you time, consider Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama maybe, long flying times to Argentina

I would go to Guatemala. I'd start in Antigua which is a beautiful old colonial town with lots of good hotels and restaurants. It is overlooked by volcanoes. I'd also spend a couplle of days by Lake Atitlqn and take a flight up to Flores and visit the ancient Mayan city of Tikal and also go on a guided rain forest tour to see the howler monkies, birds and hopefully a jaguar.

Incidentally- Mexico is in Notth America.

There is an area in the western part of Guatemala that tbe Foreign Office says not to travel to but it is not near any of the places I have mentioned.

A bit less challenging and much more expensive would be Costa Rica.

And I also love Colombia. That is a country that has absolutely everything - from Caribbean beaches to tropical rain forest, ancient art, beautiful Colonial towns and snow-capped mountains. When I went there, I even met some indigenous people who don't wear clothes. Colombians are.very friendly.

Mexico isn’t South America.

I did a Rio/Iguassa falls (staying on the Argentine side) holiday and that was fabulous. I spent five nights in both places but you could easily spend four in Rio and less visiting the falls.

Was thinking 'culturally'

Do you ever get to take longer holidays? I'd honestly stay in Europe/North Africa for a one week holiday and save South America for 2 weeks plus.

Failing that, I'd start by looking where you can get to on affordable direct flights.

I've only been to Colombia in SA. It was amazing. But we went for 3 weeks.
