Train travel with 3 month old

Travelling Oxford to Edinburgh with my baby girl next week. Seem to be the only person I have talked to who thinks the way to do this is by train, but tickets booked now, so anyway...

My plan is to take her in her car seat, but doubting that now - worried about her spending too long in it...

Anyone got any better ideas and/ or any other travel tips for a baby of this age on a train?

Thanks

Are you driving to the train station ? Are you changing trains in london?
Will you need a car seat when you arrive?

You can just put the car seat in a luggage rack and have her on your lap if need be.

Sorry but I'm bored and have done so many similar journeys.

are you going to be on your own? i took my ds on eurostar and halfway across france at the same age and took a sling which meant i could go to the loo without worrying about where to put him (hopefully he won't remember).

it might be worth upgrading to first class (sometimes you can do so for £10 on the train) - you could get a double seat to yourself which is enough space for such a young baby to stretch out.

if she has a dummy, take lots. they roll under seats.

It is about 7 hours on the train, so figure I will need her to sit in car seat during the journey. Would love to lie her on table, if poss (have booked seats with table) but worried about her rolling off. Worse on seats. (She can't roll yet, but movement of train might roll her.)

My mum will travel up with us, on my own on the way home.

She can sit on your knee, lie on the table with you holding her, lie on the seat next o you if there is a spare seat, sleep on you, have a little time in her car seat - not 7 or 8 hours mind but an hour or so at the beginning will be fine.

I'm sure the train will be ok, at least you can get up nd have a wee walk around, the alternatives are flying - not good by youself, no car seat, etc or driving.... done 3 hour journeys with ds at that ages, timed to fit in with him being asleep but certainly wouldnt have done 8 hours if there was an alternative.
