Vietnam resort stay

We are going to Vietnam as a family of 2a 3 teens at the start of July for a fortnight, Hanoi to Ho chi minh.

We want to include around 5 days at a resort, just relaxing by the pool in the sun. Where would you recommend? Ideally towards the end of the trip. Could probably swap our start and finish points (but like the idea of going cool to hot.) We have amazing beaches and sea where we live (obviously different temperatures) so we don't mind if the resort includes beach or not. I've been put off by reading about litter being washed into the sea by the rain. Budget wise ideally £100 a night but flexible as can go cheaper on the other nights.

Sorry no help but have you planned the rest of your time and is it wet in July?

We stayed at the shells on phu quoc, but that was nearly a decade ago (bloody hell!) so I'm sure things have changed.

Love planning holidays. Hope you have a great time.

At the planning stage and yes it will be wet at one end of the country no matter what time of year you go, but I've been told that the showers are heavy but predictable and over quickly, so it doesn't ruin your day.

We stayed for a few days in both Hoi An and Danang and would recommend them both as a resort stay (but also with loads to do in the area). Hotels are so cheap that we were able to stay in incredible places.

I think the best beach options are to stay at An Bang beach right near Hoi An - this means you can do a mix of sightseeing and beach - or various places near Nha Trang - these work best if you want a more isolated resort with just beach. Mia Resort could be a good option near Nha Trang. The weather is also best on the central coast in July I believe.

Anywhere else (like Con Dao or Phu Quoc) will mean extra internal flights and may not have the best weather. Phu Quoc is nice in parts but has been very very developed in other parts.

If you don’t want beach or if these areas will be too hot, then you could look at various fairly luxe lodges that have been set up in various pretty countryside locations eg Avana retreat, although this is the wrong end of the country…

July is in the hot and humid season across Vietnam.
Pick some place in the Central part of Vietnam like Danang/ Hoian, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang… for beach time less or even no rain (Dry season).

Vung Tau is nice.

Nha Trang with Vin Pearl island for the teens (VinWonders) Look it up, they will most likely love it. They also have a good mud baths in Nha Trang (Thap Ba) and their beach was (10 years ago) my favourite beach ever! Enjoy!

In terms of rubbish washing up on the beach: unfortunately this is a problem across Vietnam especially in the rainier/stormier seasons.

From reading lots of reviews, it seems that the best bet is a resort on its own “private” beach (like Mia Resort) as they generally make a big effort to clean “their” beach. Also Con Dao islands don’t seem to suffer as much, I think, but they are a pain to get to.

We didn’t see a rubbish problem at An Bang beach but we were there in settled sunny weather (April) I have seen pics after a storm and it was a mess.
