Travel to Paris -- expired passport

Yeah, okay, give me the Darwin award. But I've just noticed that DD's passport is expired and we are getting on a plane to Paris Saturday morning. Stupid stupid mummy. This is probably a stupid question, but is it possible for a British child to travel within the EU without a passport? Alternatively, I have to show up in London on Friday morning (when I should be at work) and pay £94 for an emergency issue of a bloody passport. Okay okay, it's my fault. I know. But does anyone know if this is the only way forward. (DD not getting on the plane is not an option)

strictly - no.
but it depends if they look - which is more likely on planes than the tunnel i think.
My ex realised his was expired the day before he went last year, on the tunnel, got in ok, got a slapped wrist when the UK side noticed coming back in.

I think I'm taking a holiday on Friday. Bugger! Pity I can't get DH to do it.

There's no way they'll let you on a plane without a passport.

Cammelia · 04/06/2008 22:23

You will have to queue and pay up

ChasingSquirrels · 04/06/2008 22:29

have a look [http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/apply-urgent-within-two-days.asp here]. you need to make an appointment, so ring first thing in the morning.

here

I've just been on the phone to a number on that site. I now have an appointment for premium service Friday morning and I walk out 4 hours later with a passport. Oh well, perhaps I'll make the most of my forced holiday and see if DH wants to play hookey as well and spend a grownn up day in London.

I'm getting over the shock of my stupidity.

look on the positive side - at least you realised now and can rectify it, rather than at the airport.

If it is £94 that isn't to bad - I paid £60 for blardy slow we might get it there sometime service for my dd's passport.

Plus I had to que tweice at the post office for ages upon ages to get the thing checked before they sent it of, then it was sent to the wrong address and I didn't get it for even longer as the man at number 3 didn't know whos passport it was so sent it back - I live at 33

I used to live in Northern France and frequently got Eurostar to Lille. On debarking in France there was NO passport control whatsoever. Perhaps it's different nowadays but it always struck me as odd because at the London end you practically had to strip naked.

Well, just to complicate things, my passport is American. So no doubt we'll be subject to special treatment. You know how the French love Americans. Better not take an chances. My 5 year old would be traumatised if she missed this trip. We are going over because my Aunt and cousin will be in Paris from the states and I've told DD it is her very first big girl girlie weekend away. She's really excited.

So I better have my paperwork in order so I don't risk getting sent back.

Anyway, I've taken the day off tomorrow. DH is going to join me for a day off in London.

Thanks everyone for the help.
