Auschwitz no official tickets left

We’ve messed up! We are off to Krakow and Auschwitz this October half term and all the official tickets are sold out. I’m kicking myself as to why I didn’t do this earlier.
Anyway, whilst there are hundreds of non-official providers offering tours, I believe they only really offer transport and then drop you in the queue… some are leaving Krakow at 5am!
We are instead thinking of getting an early morning train to Auschwitz ourselves and then join the official queue, in the hope that some tickets are released on the day. Has anyone done similar please?

As the original poster, I thought I’d follow up on what happened in case it’s useful to someone else. We are back home now after a great break.

I managed to book official tickets online before we went - all I could get was a polish tour at 4:50pm, ie the very end of the day (we’re not polish speakers but I was desperate). We did turn up to Auschwitz earlier in the day (around 12pm) to see if we could get earlier entrance but it was a definite ‘no’. The staff are very strict and not particularly helpful fyi.
The person on the door said all tickets were sold out and come back the next day at 6am.
So we hung out at a local small shopping centre and then returned at 4pm and got in on our polish tour tickets. As it happens, there was no tour, it was ‘self guided’ (you wander around yourself) which we were happy to do until it closed at 6:30pm ish. It was dark, raining and impactful. We were grateful to have been able to visit at all so we were v thankful. We’ll return again another time and book in advance!!

We caught the train there from Krakow and it was v easy, took 45mins and was a few pounds per person. I’d recommend doing this and then book yourself on a tour (in advance!) at a civilised time.

We booked with Touristico, they were great, picked us up at hotel at 10am, English speaking guide and optional lunch included, give them a try

Honestly, just don't go to Auswitz.
But I find the concept of going there disrespectful personally.

If we forget history we are doomed to repeat it.

Thanks for reporting back @Dinosaurfossil

Info like this is really helpful when people haven't been somewhere before.

I’d recommend Hello Cracow. We went with them earlier this year. Great service and good communication. They picked us up from our hotel and there wasn’t any queuing.

What’s disrespectful about it?

Thanks for reporting back OP. Glad you had a great trip.

I have seen a lot of people getting scammed recently thinking they'd bought tickets but it was only the bus transfer included and then being dropped in the queue at 3am!

We booked with Krakow Direct and it included tickets, very well organised and although we were collected early we were taken straight in to our tour, no queueing.

searchforthesun · 05/11/2025 20:49

Im really glad you got to see it.
There are more and more posts on the Facebook page about third party tour operators cancelling tours, some people are lucky and their tour goes ahead but a lot don’t. I’ve noticed the pick up times have got even earlier and people are being picked up at 1am!
The group memebers keep posting that the only guaranteed way of booking is direct with the museum. It’s awful how many trips get cancelled or leave people standing in the cold for hours.
