OK please forgive me for being really thick, but what foodstuffs can I take on a plane?

I haven't flown for a few years and don't know the latest.

Can I take:

Bottled water
Canned food (in main luggage)
Dry foodstuffs (crisps etc in hand luggage)
Fresh food

I'll be taking 2 yr old DS and he's a bottomless pit at the moment and also has allergies so I want to take as much of my own stuff as possible.

Hi..

You Can put anything in the luggage that goes in the hold.

You can't take bottled water through security, but can buy it when you get through to the other side.

You can take crisps and such like (dry food) through and fresh food like fruit and stuff..

The basic rule is, nothing over 100ml, so small bottles of medicine and lipstick etc are ok. and ALL liquids will have to be put in a clear plastic bag when you go through security...

Another tip, leave plenty of time to get through security as at the busy times it can be a nightmare!!!!!

You are not being thick either, it's so complicted and not necessary!

Also, remember that gels/pastes also come into the 100ml (amount or container size) rule, so if you wanted to take nut butter/cheese spread etc it would have to be the portion pack size.

Remember to check the hand luggage restrictions of whichever airport you are flying out of - some still have a 1 bag rule.

jodie has pretty much covered it!
think any food is ok really-when we flew couple of weeks ago I had a tub of pasta for dd as well as fruit, biscuits, dried fruit, crisps etc etc

we took a cup for dd but made sure it was empty when we went through security, then bought water on the other side.

Mind you re fruit it might depend where you're going. Europe ok, possibly not US

Thanks guys. Do you think dairy-free spread is ok or would that come under the 100ml rule?

Not too sure, I wouold think it would, depends if you get a mini Hitler on security. I'd call the airport!

The spread would count as a paste I'm afraid, so would have to go in a 100 ml container.

Gosh it is quite ludicrous isn't it.
