The Loos Bar.

The Sisi Museum.

Demel.

Just walking around! Everything, it’s amazing! Maybe the Christmas markets will be open then too!

Pinkvici22 · 14/10/2025 21:54

Following as I’m desperate to go! I really want to go November/December for the Christmas market!

Cackle · 14/10/2025 22:06

The last 2 weekends will have the Christmas markets my favourite is the central cafe, but make sure you book!.

Octavia64 · 14/10/2025 22:08

The Christmas markets are great. If you are there when they are open it’s a must see.

Go on the tram round the Ringstrasse and stand at the back; so much to see.
Hofburg Palace- Imperial Treasury very good.
Sisi Apartments
Spanish Riding School - the guided tour (1 hour in English) was very good. You can pay a lot more to see a performance.
Mozart concert at the famous Musikverein (New Year's Day telly concert). In costume and very good.
You can also have a guided tour of the Musikverein during the day - very beautiful.
Lots of traditional cafes with an overload of cake, chocolate, cream and coffee.

But really just look around and upwards. So many beautiful buildings, sculptures everywhere, fountains and all so well maintained.

The Hundertwasser Museum

And the Hundertwasser Haus.

You must have Wienerschnitzel and Sacher torte!

Hofburg Palace.
Albertina Gallery.
Secession Building.
Belvedere.

If you catch a train out of town, Schonbrunn Palace.

And as many cafes as you can manage, especially Leopold Hawelka; also Cafe Central.

Schönbrunn Palace is well worth it. Especially walking up to it, breathtaking

Get a 72hr pass, will let you use any bus, tram or underground(u bahn). Validate the ticket at the station or tram and you're good to go. Also go shopping on Mariahilfestrasse, it's where the locals shop.

Walk up the cathedral tower (343 steps for a great view). Wander round the Hofburg palaces area - every corner you go round has another amazing building.

Restaurant Zum Allen Fassi was great food and service but book as seemed to be full every night. Cafe Museum had great cakes (part of Landtmann group of cafes).

Schonbrunn Palace amazing - you can get into most of the garden for free, not worth paying for the other bits of the garden.

Bekvedere garden disappointing but enjoyed the buildings and the art inside.

We found the public transport great and cheap with a travel pass - trams, buses and trains. Get it at airport and it’s just an extra €2.20 to add on the journey from the airport as long as you avoid the express train. But we also walked a lot!

I'm following as I'm also going in November for the Christmas markets.

adcde123 · 15/10/2025 20:57

I’m following as there are so many great tips and I’m thinking of going in December.

libertineagain · 16/10/2025 12:29

Definitely as many coffee houses as possible Cafe Central is my favourite but Cafe Museumwas great too - I have found these better for coffee and cakes than food.

Loved House of Music - it is very interactive so kids love it but I learnt a lot about Vienna and classical musicians from it.

Already mentioned but the architecture is mind blowing.

I also recommend watching Before Sunrise before you go - it hasn't changed that much since the 90s but I loved seeing it all this time. Also makes me nostalgic for 90s bars.

bigchanges1 · 17/10/2025 20:36
