Any tricks to pack very light for 5 days away and a 10Kg luggage allowance.
Specifically toiletries etc

Honestly OP, unless you're taking a load of stuff you don't need, you will be fine. I've done that length holiday that's included hiking shoes and more clothes than normal because I needed to account for a very variable climate (Spanish mountains in spring where within a week it went between under 10 C and sleeting to over 20 C and sunny and I also had a couple of dresses to wear in the evenings) or snorkeling kit with hand luggage only.

Don't forget you have the clothes you're wearing on the plane so I always make sure that includes something like nice trainers that will be suitable for walking around in, perhaps cropped trousers that will also be suitable and a hoodie, jacket or cardigan that I can wear on chilly evenings.

Upthread you mentioned deodorant, standard roll on is under 100 ml anyway, so you don't need a special travel size, likewise toothpaste.

We always travel hand baggage only. Clothes etc I roll into packing cubes. Toiletries I use travel sizes. Stick deodorant. Make sure your total amount of travel liquids doesn’t exceed 1 litre, as I’ve seen people fall foul of that. I use perfume sachets (don’t class as liquid; weigh nothing. I get free ones from my monthly Fragonard newsletter). Nuxe l’huile prodigeuse works as moisturiser and highlighter for face/body/hands for me; I have a mini version. The pink or gold versions are my summer makeup (I wear very little tbh). One lipstick; doesn’t class as liquid.

@ChocolateBoxCottage I have been on Ryanair but not recently. I have no intention of using them but I don’t need to, luckily. The owner makes my toes curl!

also, I just get laundry done when I get to my destination.

Cynic17 · 25/10/2025 23:12

If you're in a hotel, then shampoo, shower gel, soap all provided.
Just take a toothbrush and mini travel size toothpaste and deoderant from Boots, or supermarket.
Don't bother with make up, you're on holiday so you won't need it, just shove a lipstick in your bag.
Hotel will provide hairdryer.
If absolutely necessary (eg there's been a spillage), use hotel laundry so you can keep clothes to a bare mini um.

Bjorkdidit · 26/10/2025 02:28

@Cynic17 but the OP has loads of luggage capacity and hotel toiletries and hair dryers are often shit.

Plus having seen the prices they charge for laundry, it would probably be cheaper to go out and buy new clothes instead of paying the hotel to wash the ones you have.

We are off to Malta too. Family of 4 for a week, only taking one booked in bag of 23kg plus small hand luggage. 5 days with one bag should be fine. Just did 3 days in Spain 2 adults including packed raincoats with one tiny underseat bag each. Only actually needed one of those bags. They were both half empty.

I did 2 months in Thailand and Vietnam on a hand luggage bag 😂

I’ve no idea why people boast about having to do washing on holiday! I cannot imagine anything worse. I’m not sure well off people do this. It’s a race to the bottom.
