In a couple of weeks time we have 7 days in Seoul before we move on to Japan. My husband and I will be joined by his brother and we will have DS 13 and DD10 with us.
What must we see? DH has created a rough plan but I'm worried we are going to go all that way and miss out on something that we would all love!

I'm sure you've found lots of info on the Internet, so it's really a case of fitting things to your interests.

If you're planning a visit to the DMZ then I'd suggest visiting the war memorial museum before that as it helps put it in context.

There will be some baseball play-off matches going on late October. Not sure how easy to get tickets, but probably an interesting experience if you can.

If you like the historical stuff I'd visit Changdeokgung and Changyeonggung palaces as well as the more famous Gyeongbokgung. They should be lovely at that time of year as Korea is great for autumn colours. Might not be interesting for kids. Check if there any special events going on at any of those places.

The areas between these palaces are good for wandering. Bukchon Hanok village is most famous. Insa-dong is a nice artsy area nearby

There are food classes like how to make kimchi that quite a few people do.

Nice views from Namsan even if you don't go up the tower, and as mentioned already, nice autumn colours.

Do a bit of research about the food. The kids might not like the spicier stuff though.

The kids might like the Hongdae as it's very youthful, though geared to college age students.

The alphabet is actually really easy to learn phonetically - can literally be done in a day. Korea uses hundreds of borrowed words from English so you'd have an instant vocabulary to recognise.

Might be able to add more if I know more about what you like as a group.

Seoul zoo is really good for kids. It's a good city just for wandering but I'd have struggled to fill a whole week. If I was there for seven days I'd look at doing some day trips out of Seoul, the countryside is beautiful there.

Yes, I think if you have a week you should try a day trip out of Seoul. I'm more familiar with the south-east of the country so I'm not sure what's a good day trip from there, but a temple in the hills at that time of year is always good. Avoid weekends though.

This is great, thank you everyone. I think we will try and go out of Seoul for a couple of days. My brother in law seems keen to go to Lotte world. Has anyone been? It gets quite mixed reviews (and looks like my idea of hell!).

I am keen to see temples etc, my daughter loves Stray Kids so would like to see anything to do with KPop. My husband, son and daughter are into korean food so would be very into any food markets or restaurants that are Child suitable but a bit different. They are pretty good with spicy food.

I wouldn't go to Lotte World, especially if you're going on to Japan, as there are much better amusement parks out there. Even Everland (further out) is supposed to be better. There is, though, a Lotte Folk Village next to Lotte World that some people like (separate tickets).

Going on what you've said, I think you would like looking around Hongdae. I'd go in the evening as long as it's reasonably warm.
