Clothing for Sorrento at end of month

Hello - we are going to Sorrebto at the end of this month and I’ve no idea what type of clothing to take. I’m currently in my lighter winter jumpers at home, so I can’t quite think what to bring for 21 degrees.
Is it cold in the morning and after sunset? Is it warm enough to wear sandals? Will we need coats? Will it be warm enough to sunbathe and swim in the pool?
It’s been a very long time since I’ve travelled anywhere not in peak season.

Thank you!

Is it at half term when you are going? Weather is likely to be ‘changeable’ ie it may be cloudy or with some rainfall. If you are lucky and it’s sunshine, then you should be fine in T shirts and shorts (or at least light/cropped trousers) and sandals during the day, but I wouldn’t expect to be able to go in a pool or sunbathe. If you have clouds or rain then it will feel a lot cooler, and yes it’s likely to be a bit chilly early mornings and evenings. Temperature this week currently is 22 degrees and sunny day time high, and 15 as an overnight/early morning low. Expect it to be a couple of degrees cooler.

Thank you. Yes it is half term week. I’m really hoping for sun and no rain but you never know.

We live here part time. I think of this time of year as Typical English Summer Weather. So proper footwear (even though I'd rather be in flipflops) with normal summer clothing and a cardigan/light raincoat for layering. Evenings are relatively balmy but you will need that extra layer.

In the same vein, I rarely find it warm enough to swim during a normal UK summer and I don't swim here at this time of year.

@BellyPork thank you. That’s very useful local insight. Our hotel has got a pool but I doubt it’s heated. Are there any public heated pools? My kids will just want to swim and they don’t care about the cold but I do!

We are going next week (no school age kid anymore) and the forecast says low twenties with a chance of rain and a mix of clouds and sun.

I would think two weeks later is similar, you may have a great week with warmer weather but I don't think it's guaranteed.

I plan T-shirt and light trousers, cardigan/jumper, a coat, umbrella and proper shoes

MissAmbrosia · 09/10/2025 20:33

Have you checked that the pool will still be open? It's October so the Italians will all have their winter coats on, even if you or I might find it quite clement. We went to Rome Oct half term one year and it was pleasant during the day - not shorts maybe but t-shirts, but got quite cool in the evening.

newrubylane · 09/10/2025 20:38

It rained a lot when I was there in Mid October and was definitely on the cooler side, especially in the evening. I'd take some layers in case.

@reluctantbrit oh can I be cheeky and ask you to post next week when you’re there? It will be really useful to know if you feel you d got the right outfits for the weather.

@MissAmbrosia yes, checked and pool will still be open until 31 October

I can try.

Teakettletrio · 09/10/2025 20:47

@soupyspoon yeah I will be checking the outlook the day before we go but what I’m struggling to imagine is if it’s 22 degrees but actually it’s summer in the light and winter in the shade so you think it’s warm but as soon as a breeze blows you’re freezing. Or is it 22 degrees comfortably warm until the sun goes down.

I go to the south if France in half term and generally I find it pretty warm. I mean swimsuit warm. It’s definitely autumn so the evenings are dark and cooler but the sun feels a month or so behind the uk - think early September rather than nearly November.
The sea feels cool but pretty much summer uk temp.

The hotel pool won't be heated so dry-robes for the kids, bulky I know but maybe they could travel in them. Heated pools are not a thing here but you could take a day trip to Ischia for the thermal springs.

Teakettletrio · 10/10/2025 12:09

@BellyPork oh the thermal baths on Ischia look amazing. But I worked out it would be £375 for a day trip there for us (£40 ferry/£35 thermal baths). 😱
