Adult DD and me.

Not Copenhagen
Not Amsterdam

We are both happy to walk lots.
We are not looking for anything in particular, just keen to experience another culture and spend time together.

TIA

Thank you all so much for the suggestions. Now we are spoilt for choice. We do both like sunshine and warmer weather (I'm put off Reykjavik for example as it will only have about 4 hours of daylight) but, as it will be December, perhaps we should embrace the winter.

re the question, "a popular tourist destination or something off the beaten track (and probably less busy as a result)?" We don't have any pre conceived ideas so either. I'm not an overly brave traveller (I wouldn't go somewhere with just a guide book and rucksack and wing it for example) but I do want to broaden my horizons so happy to go somewhere slightly less commercial.

We went to Seville in January, one of my favourite places.
Have also done Munich, Vienna, Reykjavik, Lisbon, Krakow in the winter. This Dec we are going to Lublijana and will visit Lake Bled.

We went to Valetta in Malta in mid December last year ... it was 18/19 degrees and it's a beautiful city by the sea.

Lille is a great winter destination. It’s so easy to reach on Eurostar, we’ve been there twice in January and thoroughly enjoyed it. The historic centre is beautiful and there’s there’s lots of Christmas stuff going on at the Grand Place. There are many great bars and restaurants and some impressive museums. It’s not a major tourist destination so I was pleasantly surprised by how much it offers the visitor.

We’ve done Reykjavik in December and it was beautiful. Yes, it’s cold but it was amazing to experience such a different type of place.

We've decided on Seville and I'm looking at a hotel close to the Sevilla Santa Justa Train Station.

For those that know Seville, is that ok? My DD and i are both happy to walk places.

TIA

I would look to stay in the Barrio Santa Cruz if at all possible.

Santa Justa is a decent walk from most places you’ll be visiting- it was around 8/9 Euros in a taxi to the centre earlier this year. I would look at staying in the El Arenal area if you can- lovely area and walkable to everywhere!

I've had a great time spending December holidays in Malta. It was relatively empty (in comparison to the summer) but still lively. We walked around medinas, ate nice local food and had cheap vacations all in all. Vienna is a great December city as well, very cold but has a charm. Tunis is also a very nice place to be, although they don't celebrate Christmas there (if it's smth that interests you). This December we are planning our vacations in the Canary islands! In general, we have found good info for our destinations from lonely planet, ferry hopper and travel buddies.
