Booked today.. flying out tomorrow.
Shortest time before this was 5 days.
( retired no commitments). Was in Greece 3 weeks ago.
Just need to get out of this awful weather.. so popping off to Cyprus tomorrow.
I am lucky we can do this often ( average 8 times a year .. just SC in a villa or apartment for a week). The sun to me is better than any medication for my poorly bones and muscles..( Osteoarthritis/ Fibromyalgia/ Cervical spondylosis radiculopathy and stenosis. ). Got two major operations coming up.. so won't beable to just jet off after for a while). The price of the flight was less than a meal out for two.. £45 out... 47 ret.

At the end of July went out drinking on the Wed and drunkenly booked a holiday that left on Friday. Didn't actually remember what we had done (ie pressed the 'book now' button) until mid morning on Thursday when it was a scramble to book transport to the airport! Was an excellent break though, so worth it!

Day before... original holiday was cancelled, holiday company offered either a refund or credit plus £200pp to book anything else we wanted. We went for looking what they had, and got a brilliant deal.

Or two days before when DHs operation was cancelled so we had a free week.

Both of those were school holiday time, with our two children.

In my youth I booked a holiday three weeks before, to remember my passport had expired m, so that was a stressful rush!

Back in the nineties when I was daft about my first boyfriend, booked a holiday at a travel agency on the Friday snd went away to Tenerife on the Sunday. The days before the internet!

Thinking about going on a "book it, pack it, f*ck off" (Thanks Peter Kay) holiday in January. Canary Islands. We'll see what turns up.

@ItsFridayIminLoveJS where do you find your flights, if you don’t mind me asking?

Have a great time!

My Dad and I used to pack, turn up at our airport and ask what late deals they had. We’d then go pretty much immediately. I think that was a fairly common thing to do back then! We got home lovely holidays for a pittance.

All I can say is, I better not be one of these unlucky few who’ve worked all their lives but pops their clogs just after retirement! I have a healthy projected private pension and love the idea of just jetting off on a whim! Last had a holiday 10 years ago but enjoy learning where others are off to.

This upset me. You deserve a holiday if you work so hard. Surely you can take a week off once or twice a year, for some sun and relaxation or a bit of exploration and adventure?

Booked through Cefax (yes that long ago) in the morning, left that evening. Unallocated accommodation, just off the back of high season. £80 each for 10 nights s/c, great apartment, fab pool, 2
mins walk to the beach.

I miss those days!

I love to travel and have a long haul multi destination touring holiday annually which take loads of planning.

I’m retiring next year (early) and intend to take short notice breaks when I can. This thread can be my inspiration.

In my 20’s. Had just split up with a boyfriend, had a week off work for the following week, originally planned to spend together in his home city, which obviously wasn’t then going to happen.

Went to travel agents on the Friday afternoon after work, flew out to a Med destination on the day after, Saturday. Had a wonderful restorative time, good food and sunshine.

Mumofyellows · 04/10/2025 16:14

A week I think, the Covid lockdown was lifted and we nipped off to visit family abroad and then straight back and off on honeymoon while we could.

MYOB12 · 04/10/2025 16:15

One Thursday evening I booked a 5 day holiday, going away on the Monday. It was only to Rhyl, but still. I normally book/plan waaaaaay ahead!

GlastoNinja · 04/10/2025 16:20

In the days of ceefax, booked a ‘mystery’ holiday where you find out where you’re going at the airport, departing the next day. Turns out it was Majorca, everything was closed except a few pubs - my liver did not thank me. We survived on chips and beer, we slept all day and drank all night.
