Paris - anyone there right now?

I’ve got a short trip to Paris that I booked and saved for ages ago for my daughter’s birthday (18) and I’m a bit worried about the strikes. I know France is really good at protests (as in they go all out!) and I wonder whether it would be a disaster if we do try to go? I can pay for taxis if there are no trains in Paris itself (going via Eurostar) but if everything is shut and people are out expressing their issues (fair enough) maybe it’ll be a bit rubbish for my daughter?

Not in Paris I'm elsewhere in France but it might be worth knowing that despite the coverage in the MSM the strikes aren't all in or all encompassing.

On strike days there's usually a minimum level of service required on public transport (? Unlike UK?), post often gets delivered, airports may run OK, etc.

Certainly locally if you stayed away from the demos and marches earlier this week when out and about you wouldn't have known there was action going on - interesting to hear an actual report from Paris.

Good to know! They do make it look as though everything grinds to a halt but I guess that’s news for you! Thanks for your input!

You're welcome, though it would be really interesting to hear what did go on in Paris, just in case we got lucky locally.

I’m in Paris. The strike was yesterday and a lot of the metro lines were running with 2 out of 3 trains. Son went to school as normal. The French are actually quite good at striking without causing too much inconvenience. The Gare du Nord RER B connection, for eg, was kept running so as not to inconvenience train passengers.

Remember too that Paris is a relatively small city, and very walkable.

Brill! Thanks so much. Feel a lot calmer now.
