Hi all,

We’re Wanting to book our family summer holiday for next year. We have a plan just no clue where to actually stay. We have 3 teens and will be going in a car for 3 weeks.

The first week we want to drive to central France to stay with family. Then the following 10 days we want to go across to Italy. We don’t want to be driving too long- 7 hours fine a little longer if we have too. We have no clue where to go. It needs to be just over the Italian border above Turin in that sort of area.

We’ll then drive up and into Germany where we’ll stay for 5 nights before driving up to the tunnel.

Preferably for both, want a holiday parc staying in a chalet with a pool and fishing nearby.

We’ve Always holidayed in France so finding this rather daunting and would appreciate any advice on areas or parks.

Thanks

What made you decide you want to go to Italy and Germany? Do you have an idea of the sort of things you’d like to see?

From Turin to Germany is through the Alps and will be a hell of a drive.

Personally I would stick with two countries rather than one. France and Germany or France and Italy. There will be loads to see and do either way.

From Turin to the German border at Basel is about 5 hours drive across Switzerland and it's lovely. I've done (most of) it several times. You don't have to go over the Alps — the highest point is the Gran San Bernardo tunnel at 1800m.

From the Swiss–German border it's only an hour more to Europa Park which is one of the best theme/ride parks in the world.

Italy-Germany in Summer is insanely busy, I think you will need to double any travel time.

I would only do two countries, France-Italy or France-Germany and have more time in each location.

We did Alsace/Palantinate once, nice but not necessarily extremely exciting but good if you like towns, history, hiking, outdoor and wine.

Or go from France a bit further south into Germany to Lake Constanz/Freiburg. You can then go via the Europa-Park back and have a couple of days at the themepark.
