Does anyone remember CHA (Countrywide Holidays) from the 1970s?

I was trying to describe these to my DH. They were walking holidays where you stayed in run-down beautiful buildings, a bit like a Youth Hostel.

I think we went on a few (or possibly with HF which was similar). One trip was to a big old house in Cromer. It rained a lot.

We did a few when I was little and I think they were lovely!

I look back with fondness too. We went to a wonderful building called Kinfauns Castle that became a posh hotel. I learned Scottish dancing that week - but it did rain a lot. Right through our Kagouls.

I had a yellow Kagoule and it was a nightmare to get on and off. The wedm rubbery feel. Bleeeuuurrgghh.

My word, yes. I recall the old house at Cromer and the Whitby house near the Gothic ruins. I loved the Countrywide holidays. Nice, down to Earth people.

I used to work in the one in Barmouth in the 70s. We're actually going back to Barmouth this week to see if I can find it. I loved working there.
