November Holiday and TTC

Hi all,

Looking for a bit of holiday inspiration and hoping some of you might have suggestions. My partner and I are TTC (it’s been over a year now), and I’m on Letrozole for PCOS. We’re thinking of getting away for 10/14 days in early November to relax and reset — ideally somewhere warm and sunny to break up the grey UK weather.

We went to Lanzarote last year and love it, but feel like we might get a bit bored if we went again as we’ve done quite a lot of it already. That said, we’d consider it again if nothing else ticks the boxes.

A few things we’re looking for:

  • Warm weather in early November (enough for lounging/swimming/sunshine)
  • TTC-safe — so ideally no or very low Zika risk (this is one of our biggest concerns - has anyone taken the risk?)
  • Somewhere with nice scenery, relaxing vibes, and a bit to do (we’re not party people, more into walks, exploring local food, culture, etc.)
  • Not too long a flight ideally (though flexible if it’s worth it) - sadly not enough holiday at work to do Australia/New Zealand.

Has anyone been anywhere that fits the bill? We’re open to places in Europe or further afield. Would love to hear any recommendations — or warnings of places to avoid!

Thanks so much in advance 💛

I was a regular traveler to Thailand, but also stopped going when TTC due to the zika risk. In fact, I didn't go anywhere with the risk when TTC.

These sites have some ideas. Another also mentioned Hawaii, but I'm unsure where is good in Nov.

Thank you so much, this is so helpful.

I hadn’t considered Mauritius or the Seychelles as assumed they weren’t Zika safe!

I went to Mexico 10 weeks pregnant earlier this year. Initially I was concerned about Zika, but after doing research there has only been one case of Zika in Cancún in the last couple of years. There are NO active outbreaks and earlier this year the CDC removed any travel notices for Zika in Mexico. I figured that people get pregnant and have children all the time in these countries with no problem; and I needed the break. I took tropical strength bug spray and didn’t get bitten once.

It was the most relaxing holiday I have ever been on, the service, the weather, the FOOD. You just don’t get the same levels of service in Europe or the Canary Islands IMO. I would highly recommend it.

Cyprus or Greece/Greek islands are good. It’s not guaranteed winter sun like Lanzarotte, but if you go somewhere where there’s things to do on days which might not be sunbathing weather, it could work. I went to Kefalonia in Nov once and the weather was perfect.

Thanks so much for your reply. Did you tell your doctor you were going? Were you still able to have travel vaccinations? Xx

I would be very careful of going to any countries on the Zika infection list if you are at any fertility or assisted conception clinics OP.

No I didn’t, I had taken my own research and risk assessment and didn’t want to be panicked unnecessarily lol. You aren’t required to be vaccinated against anything to go to Mexico, and the recommended vaccines are diphtheria and tetanus (which are both routine vaccines in UK) and Hep A. All safe in pregnancy; it’s only the yellow fever one which isn’t.
