Prague

We have three full days plus an evening in Prague in October, with three teens. The oldest is 17.

Can anyone recommend any activities not to miss, or places to eat please? One of the kids can be a bit picky with food, so we will need to find places with at least a couple of safe / familiar dishes.

As a family, we prefer to be doing things, rather than looking at things, though museums are ok in small doses and if they hold the teens' attention. As a reference point, The Vatican museum was a bit much!

Any insights appreciated, thanks!

Fat Cat restaurants, there's 2, one in the old town and one on St Wensleslast Square. Burgers pizza etc but the food was great.
If you like steak El Gauchos Argentinian steak house, pricey but absolutely fabulous.
I'd give most of the restaurants on the main square a miss, I found the food meh, rather disappointing.
Alforno pizza & pasta also excellent

We did a ghost tour which was fun. Also for teens have a look at the Steel Art museum.

When we went last time we bought a 9 (I’m sure it was 9!) towers ticket.
We then worked our way around the city climbing all the towers.
It includes the Petrin tower, the astronomical clock tower, a really cool one with an old KGB listening/lookout station at the very top, and plenty of others.
It was a great way to organise our time in the city. I’ve also done it by using all the David Cerny sculptures as a way to work my around the city.
We’ve also done a fat tyre scooter tour of the city.

A river cruise is always a good option too. we did a fairly short one which was about an hour long and had a commentary too which was very interesting

Prison Island is a kind of crystal maze type place which was brilliant fun. It’s quite pricey but I thought it was definitely worth it.
There’s a water park- Aquapalace. It’s mostly indoors. My teens loved it.
Pedalos on the river is nice if the weather is decent.
We did some cultural stuff too but these activities were the most fun apparently.

Day trip to Kutna Hora to see the bone church- teens may like that?!?!

Manifesto Market in Smíchov would be great…it is an open air collection of street food places, lots of food options…

Any logistical questions, ask me, I live here now.

Thank you all, lots of ideas to start us off.
@mememememe1984 Thank you, I may well come back to you.
@Everyonelikecapybaras Just need something recognisable (pizza, pasta, chicken strips etc. ) Not great with trying new things.

I love idea of nine towers. Though I think there would be a mutiny by about the fifth!

Schnitzels are on most menus. Breaded chocken on pork so familiar.
Also worth trying fried cheese. It's veg option in many places.
Fris, croquettes etc aslo available so don't stress about food really. You will easily find places where you can enjoy local food and fussy will be fed too. SIdes can be plain if needed. Potatoes and the above two.

MyElatedUmberFinch · 16/09/2025 08:00

Castle

Monastery (Tram there, walk back)

Underground tour

Boat trip

Medieval night with entertainment and food/drink which was great fun

Eat a chimney cake

Clock tower

Food tours

Lots of the restaurants offer things with chips such as burgers etc.

Yep, could definitely go either way. I imagine some teens would think it was cool, but definitely a weird place!

LittleGreenDuck · 16/09/2025 13:15

Thanks everyone, I'll put these ideas out to the vote and rustle up an itinerary. I reckon the bone church will be right up their street - maybe not mine!

The zoo. You'll need to get a tram and a bus, but they're both frequent.

The elephant enclosure is huge and we were treated to elephants mating. The silverback gorilla climbed onto a tree in his enclosure and started posing.

Unlike British tourist attractions the food there was cheap, things like roasted sweetcorn.

There's so many museums so you can choose what you want to see. There's a church in Hradcany ( not convinced of spelling ) that has so much gold on the interior that you'd think Trump was the designer.

Everyonelikecapybaras · 17/09/2025 08:59

Prague zoo is absolute top, but I don't think I ever was in October. It's an all day trip😂 so much to see
