Where to stay in Amsterdam

I’m going to Amsterdam for a few days with my family - there are 8 of us ranging from 5 to 75. Would love your recommendation of where to stay (both areas and hotels / accommodation). It’s a big birthday so looking for a lovely neighbourhood and accommodation that’s modern, super clean and close to most things (or very near the metro to get into town). Budget is more limited than I would like it to be - but probably £250 per room per night.

Any tips for family activities, quiet gems or special places to eat also really welcome .

Nice to see posts on Amsterdam - I think it kind of went out of fashion as a break place , but we love it ,go twice a year, food scene has massively improved , it’s actually quite reasonable too ( wine bars are way more reasonable than uk) and for me it’s a great blast of ‘continental’ with a very short flight - I avoid the ‘weed alley’ few streets near central station admittedly which area but grim . I do recommend the Pipj area for those that don’t know it well - quite urban, but terrific bar and food scene, lovely and massive market , kind of a Camden vibe if years ago - also lots of very easy trips out ( 20 to 50 minute easy) Utrecht, Haarlem, Hilversum, Leiden, Hague, - beaches and woods etc -

We stayed in the NH one in the museum quarter earlier this year. Think it was called Avani Museum quarter. It was so nice! Would go back in a heartbeat. Lovely big rooms with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the canal. Close to public transport but we also walked into the city centre one day. There’s a Spar shop just down the street that sells lovely takeaway food/coffee etc if you need something cheap and cheerful to bring up to the room.
The De Pijp neighbourhood is just across the canal too which we loved. I would like to live there!
We didn’t do a whole lot while in Amsterdam but we did enjoy a canal cruise and the Anne Frank house (you need to book this)
Food wise we enjoyed Sita Indian which is also in the museum quarter. Hope you have a great time, it’s a fantastic city.

@Onefortheroad25 yes I love De Pipj too as mentioned below - even has a good breakfast greasy spoon!!
