Holiday with 6/7 month old?

If you were going on a holiday with a 6/7 month old (March/April time)…
Where would you go?
Do you have any hotel recommendations?
Would you go half board/all inclusive/self-catering?

I’m a teacher so I would love to be able to take advantage of a term-time holiday while I’m on maternity leave but is it just a terrible idea?

Go before they’re mobile and it’ll be a lot easier!
at that time of year you probably need somewhere like the canaries if you want it to be warm and check the pool is heated!

We went to Greece when DD was 3 months old, was a really great time to travel! We did a lot of travelling when our older kids were I’d say 8 months plus, but blob stage is the best stage for travelling 😄 until they’re about 3, when they can understand the process a bit more. So, a Christmas trip? 😁

Still perfectly doable to go with an 8 month old of course, just thought I’d mention it in case you’re ruling it out due to baby’s age.

Hi,

I have a 5 month old and we’ve just come back from two holidays this summer, one being Spain and one Turkey. I was so nervous for the Turkey holiday because I thought the flight would be too long plus the transfer time etc but he slept the full way there and back on both holidays (I think it was the white noise from the plane).
The worst part was planning everything I needed to take with me but once that was all done it was sooo easy. He slept on a sun lounger in the shade next to us during the day. Went in the pool to cool off a few times plus we had a little baby pool with us that we just kept next to the sun bed.
My advice would be go wherever you want to go. Baby is too young to appreciate any entertainment etc so I’d go where you want to go now before you’re browsing for kids entertainment hotels in a couple of years.
The only thing I would say is that we went to an all inclusive hotel and we probably wouldn’t if we ever had another baby.. reason being we felt a little bit like we had to go for meals at set times and sometimes he was awake, he didn’t really appreciate being awake in a pram while we was eating and had to take it in turns to go and get our food, usually having to rush because he was getting fed up. We said If we had gone self catering we could have had a walk with the pram then gone into a restaurant when he was asleep, both eat together etc.
The other thing with the all inclusive was that when the evening entertainment started, if he was awake he hated being sat in his pram and wanted walking about, again leaving one of us at the table, if he was asleep, the loud music would wake him up. We spent a lot of time doing laps of the hotel to get him to sleep. We found he was happier when we left the hotel and he wasn’t restricted to being sat still at a table all night in his pram. I think we just felt it would have been a little easier to fit round his routine instead of him having to fit into the hotel meal/entertainment times.
Heat wise, we was in Turkey in August and he was absolutely fine. We took a little fan and he just stayed in his nappy all day.
Personally we love Majorca, Palma Nova is our usual go to.. short flight, short transfer and it has everything you need within walking distance. We invested in a good travel pram that fit in the overhead cabin on the plane so we had that at all times really which was useful. It also went to a fully flat position so he could nap properly on a night time when we was out. It wouldn’t have mattered where he was, he was happy and chilled for both holidays and I’d tell everyone to do it with a baby. Xx

I’d do a Spain and Canary Island cruise. If you choose one that departs and returns to Southampton, you won’t have to fly and there are no restrictions on the amount of luggage you can take. You can easily take a pram, travel cot (although most cruise lines do provide them), as many supplies as you need…
Most cruise lines have a night nursery where you can leave children from 6 months while you have a leisurely dinner and enjoy evening entertainment, and you get notified if they wake up. Having said that, there are child-friendly dining areas with high chairs and baby food available on request.
We cruised with a baby on P&O and could book free equipment like travel cots, baby baths, bottle sterilisers, and food warmers for use in our cabin. They also stocked nappies and Hipp Stage 1 and 2 jars.

The Canaries are definitely up for consideration!

I would check the cruise line carefully as they don’t all allow children in nappies in the pool.

We took DS at 6m to Benalmadena in March. Was between 20-25c and was lovely to walk the pram up and down the promenade, he loved the aquarium and sitting by the pool with some toys.
