Holiday Insurance problem.

I booked a European coach holiday a couple of months ago for December and took out Insurance for myself which cost £50 with Admiral.
Today I have been informed the trip has been cancelled and I will be refunded my deposit.
What I want to know is do I have to suck up the £50 I paid as I am being refunded the deposit or can I ask the travel company to refund it to me ? It happened earlier in the year with a different company and I never thought about it until now as it has happened again.
I don't know how many times I will go abroad each year so book them if I go on a single trip.

I suspect you have it now. The insurance company isn’t obliged to refund you if you change your plans.

No, the holiday company doesn’t have to refund you and nor does the insurer (unless you’re within 14 days of having paid for the policy).

Thanks, it is not the insurance company I was asking about, I know they won't refund me, maybe transfer to a different holiday if I ask. It is the travel company I booked the holiday with who have cancelled it I was asking about.

Are you asking if you can have your insurance premium refunded because the holiday has been cancelled? The answer is no!

If you go away several times a year, have you looked at getting an annual travel insurance policy?

If the travel company has cancelled they should refund any payments you made .If they are unable to do this then you can claim on your insurance.

If you are now left with an insurance policy and no holiday then what happens to the policy depends on the exact wording. If it was just a general policy for a particular period then it may still cover you if you book a replacement holiday.

Sorry to misunderstand. Your OP was quite clear. As above, I suspect the holiday company isn’t liable. If it’s a single trip policy then you could contact the insurance company to ask what happens? Or check the T&Cs of your policy as someone else has suggested?

I only go abroad twice a year and found that the annual insurance was much more expensive than booking 2 single trips. I am just throwing my money away by buying it as the travel company have cancelled not me and they did say we had to have it so I just thought they should refund it along with the money I have already paid to them. Obviously not.
Looks like I will be better staying in UK.

I hate to say it but it’s worth having insurance for UK holidays too. They still cost money you might need to recoup if things go wrong!

For me the insurance for UK holiday is much cheaper than Europe.
