Long haul return flight at midnight. How to spend the day?

Any tips on how best to spend the day before a long flight home that leaves at around midnight? Inquire about late check out hotels so we can have a shower etc before the flight? Or better to spend the day exploring, shopping, getting tired?
The city we are flying from is Hanoi if that makes any difference.
Thanks for any tips or ideas.

We have always just booked an extra night in the hotel. I don’t want to have to pack and check out at 10 or 11. I like to have my bags with me so I can pack properly and enjoy my last day.

As it’s almost 5 months ago I expect the OP might even be back now!

What did you do in the end @FrostOnWindows ?

Just love Hanoi, so much to see and do and you can easily fill the last day. Enjoy the shopping!

We just had this in Miami. 10pm fight, 11am check out from hotel. We tried to have a normal day exploring and it was fine until about 4pm then the weather turned! Ended up just having afternoon drinks in a bar then heading to the airport earlier than usual.

Agree with PP, treat it as a normal day of the holiday and go out and explore.

We had an 11.30pm flight from Singapore. We had a slow start to the morning - went out about 11am as we had a 3 hour walking tour. Did that then a little bit of shopping , came back to the hotel and chilled a while then we went to the airport about 6 - bit that was because it was Changhi and a lot to see and do.

i am looking at a midnight flight back from Ho Chi Minh City when I go and think I will book a late checkout for sure - the prices won’t be as high there as they were in Singapore. (We had left luggage in hotel)
