Hong Kong - where to stay?

I’ve been many times but always stayed with a friend in the New Territories, although haven’t been since pre covid
this time we’d like to have a couple of nights more central and just looking for recommendations of whether we do Kowloon Or HK Island.
DP isn’t fussed on the steep streets area (can’t remember the name) where it comes alive at night.
but I remember TST having some fun Philippino bars so that might be an option

anyway thanks in advance for any recommendations

We stayed at Lanson Place Hotel in Causeway Bay. It was a really great, convenient location and when we went, it was incredible value for money. This was about 8 or 9 years ago, but from their online reviews it looks like it’s still an amazing hotel.

What are you intending to do? All you’ve mentioned are bars in TST/LKF. It makes most sense to base yourself where you plan to spend the most time but obviously that also depends on your budget. There’s no point us recommending the Ritz-Carlton if your budget is more hostel level.

Possibly not helpful, but we always stayed at the Peninsular though since my husband died I have branched out a little. Uber luxury hotels lose a little of their lustre for me when travelling alone. Half the experience is enjoying it with someone. So more recently, although I do sometimes stay there for old times sake, I have stayed in the Langham and the Auberge (Discovery Bay) and not had a bad experience.

Harbour Grand is where we stayed. It’s in North Point and only a few steps away from the MTR. We had fabulous views right across the harbour and the old Kai Tak airport.

You need to give budget.

In a different life, I used to go to an annual convention in the convention centre on HK Island. I aways stayed in the YMCA Hotel in Wan Chai. It was very well located for access to everything, including the star ferry. Clean, comfortable and inexpensive, it made a very good base.

Sorry, about £200 per night maybe £300 for something special
@GenerousGardener I have stayed there in the past and it was lovely, in between my friends place & central
but looking for something a little more central this time

we will have had 3 full on days with friends so just looking for a nice pool, nice rooms & central

weve done lots of sightseeing on previous trips

We always stay at Cordis in Mongkok. There’s an MTR underneath it and a decent rooftop pool.
