If so, where are you going and have you been before?

Can you recommend anywhere?

Cant make my mind up.
Thanks!

Lanzarote - OK-ish, weather was a bit of a mix but we didn't like the island really.
Cyrpus - great, one day bad weather but in general warm enough to swim during the day
Cornwall, York, New Forest, Amsterdam, Harz in Germany (detour from visiting family) - all good but definitely not weather proof.

Are the pools warm enough to swim in?

Absolutely. We have stayed at the Avanti Village a few times so can recommend it. So nice and the kids, although 17 and 21 now, would go back tomorrow!

Nothumberland. It's so beautiful in Autumn. Windy, cold walks on beaches with castles. What more do you need?!

We’ve been to the Canaries a few times in the October half term but have been put off since it rained most of the week one holiday in Gran Canaria. Other years it had been hot & sunny there but it made me more aware it’s a bit of a gamble. Which I’m reluctant to take now flights are so expensive.

Morocco this year.
Went to Turkey last year.
Probably Egypt next year.

Really useful thread for me as also contemplating f where to go in October. I'm quite keen on Crete but seems like weather is probably quite hit and miss. Can't bare the thought of paying quite a lot and then having kids whinge it's too cold for the pools.

Toyo g with Mexico. Anyone been there October half term?

My adult daughter went to Mexico and loved it. But it’s a much longer flight and she says it took 3 hours to get through passport control after the long flight.

Cyprus will be hotter and more reliable than Crete and a significantly shorter flight than Mexico.

Benidorm for a blast of warmth although swimming pool will be cold.

Previously London, Manchester, Germany as we often use this holiday for a football trip.

Malaga, it's such a lovely time of year there. Temperatures around 25 degrees.

Snap! Love Malaga in October.

Never been to Mexico, but the pools will indeed be cold in Crete in October, though the sea will be warm. Even in Kos and Rhodes, the warmest Greek islands, that'll be the case. I'd say Greece in October is a good option for sea lovers but not those who like the pool, unless you find somewhere heated of course.

twistyizzy · 31/08/2025 10:50

Greece on a classical tour. First time abroad since 2018!

I've been to Mexico first week in November, weather was stunning, the sea was beautiful. It's the very end of the hurricane season so some risk still but small. A long flight.

Yep - centerparcs in Belgium. Not been before but previously did eurocamp at De Twee Bruggen in Holland which was GREAT. Very relaxing - honestly we’ve just had a week AI in Greece and I found lovely calm Holland eurocamp far more relaxing and nourishing for my soul. And I am NOT a UK centerparcs person at all.

Cliffedge25 · 31/08/2025 07:04

This is what I had in mind, maybe Yorkshire.
Abroad is way too expensive.

Looking at Haven for the pools and activities. I love autumn in the U.K.

You might be surprised how affordable euro camp/centerparcs are and very much similar to a UK autumn. I love UK autumn too 🧡

moppety · 31/08/2025 11:06

We’ve paid £250 for our Eurocamp in Holland for six nights and £700 for the ferry from Hull. Probably could have flown for a fair bit cheaper but we want to take our bikes and things and prefer having our car.

Eliza342 · 31/08/2025 11:08

We’re going to Lanzarote. I tend to look at Turkey, Cyprus and the Canaries as warm weather options for Oct half term

Spanglybangles · 31/08/2025 18:41

We’re going to Canada. Flying into Vancouver, then driving up to the Rockies. Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper, taking in Lake Louise amongst others. I cannot wait!!!

Are the pools warm enough to swim in?

No. They’re freezing. Same for Greece and Turkey. People go in them but literally for a few minutes then out. They’re Baltic. The sea is warmer or look for a heated pool.

Ex travel agent and I’ve been to a lot of places.

I’ve been to Cyprust the start of Oct and it was fine but it cooled throughout the week.

LBOCS2 · 02/09/2025 18:42

We usually do the canaries in October half term but for various reasons we don’t have a full week this year and a 4 hour flight feels a bit much for 5 days.

We’re looking at Malta or Seville this year, I think. I quite fancy Marrakesh too but that’s less likely.

tostaky · 02/09/2025 19:59

We are considering either Istanbul, Athens or Rome with three teenage boys. Any advice?
