Teens and rooms on holiday - maybe Mexico

Hi, we have 17 and 14 year old daughters. They’re at the age where they need to be in another room on holiday but not sure how to make that work. All the family rooms we see have two beds in one room. They at least need a dividing door from us.
we’re hoping to go to Mexico next year does anyone know hotels where we can achieve this? I believe they are two young to have a completely separate room?

Too young at 17 and 14? I would respectfully disagree. Separate rooms and request they are next to each other?

GardenGaff · 28/08/2025 19:19

DS always had his own room from about age 15. We’d say on the booking that he and DH were in one room and I was in the other.

Just book 2 separate rooms. Nobody actually check who is in them.

So you just want 1 double & 1 twin? Shouldn't be difficult.

TheNightingalesStarling · 28/08/2025 19:19

Have you tried refining your search to 2 room suites?

SoftPillow · 28/08/2025 19:21

Interconnecting rooms, or a family suite?

We don’t usually share rooms and don’t normally have any trouble finding interconnecting or suites. It’s easier in newer purpose built hotels

Seeline · 28/08/2025 19:23

You can just have adjoining rooms at that age!
Mine had their own hotel room from 15 and 13.

My husband doesn’t want to arrive there to be told they’re not allowed to be in their own room without an adult?

I should add that we’re 💯 happy for them to have their own room just need confirmation it’s allowed

Just book two twin rooms with one adult and one child listed on the booking. Once in, put the girls in one room and you two go in the other room. Sorted 🤷‍♀️ Request ahead that you’d like rooms next door to one another.

Dunno about Mexico specifically, but we just book a one twin and one double under one adult's name and request the rooms to be close together. Have been doing this since DCs were 13-14 and never been told it was a problem. Generally the hotel will give us next-door rooms, sometimes we've had rooms on the same floor but a few doors apart.

EffinMagicFairy · 28/08/2025 20:50

We took our teens to Mexico and requested rooms next to each other, when are you thinking of going? We went July and experienced a Cat 4 hurricane which meant lock down in our rooms from 7pm until 11 am, we ended up all in one room for the night, as you couldn’t leave to even pop next door.

According to our booking a couple of years ago to Rhodes, one room was for DH and the second for DD (15) and me.

Even the porter knew who was in which room and nobody said anything.

There are some hotels who do two bedroom suites, we had a RIU one in Tenerife. One door from the hallway, the second bedroom then was accessible from the first bedroom.
Worked also well for us.

So as others have said - if reception ask just say there’ll be one adult with each child in each room. Trust me they are not going to kick you out.

We did 2 weeks in Mexico last August and had one afternoon of rain, rest was glorious weather. Booked teen in with one adult with second room booked for other adult. Emailed hotel and got next door rooms. Did same in Tunisia this year and had rooms 4 apart. Neither hotel cared who was sleeping where. Was clear he was on his own both times as we asked for a second key card for his room so we could wake him/let him in when he locked himself out/keep our aircon on when we were out.

iirbRosb · 28/08/2025 22:05

We just book two rooms; you can tell the hotel that an adult is in each room if you want, they won’t check but it’s never been an issue for us

mamagogo1 · 28/08/2025 22:11

Book 2 rooms, mine were in their own room younger than that, most hotels couldn’t care less

SunnySideUK77 · 29/08/2025 15:10

Thanks all! X

Loads of two bed suites/separate rooms out there OP and it would bother me if my daughters were not in proximity to me. I’ve travelled as a lone female for work many times and as a consequence I would not want them apart from me in another area of the hotel. Plenty of options just select the right search options on whatever App you are using then you have to dig into the room configuration a bit.

parietal · 30/08/2025 08:23

We’ve just travelled all over Europe with DDs age 14 and 17 who share a twin room while DH and I have a double. The only thing I dislike is if the hotel put us on different floors or even different buildings. Picking smaller hotels and asking for adjacent rooms helps.

whiteroseredrose · 30/08/2025 20:32

Book a 2 bedroom apartment?
