If you only have a week I wouldn’t necessarily plan on booking more than a night in the wine lands (Stellenbosch or Franschhoek ) it can be very very hot in January away from the coast, and there’s so much to see in and around Cape Town, though if you do then a visit to Babylonstoren is a definite must do . There’s a fab restaurant called Melfort with a talented chef owner around there I’d recommend. Franschoek is beautiful but is very much a pretty old town full of foodie places and expensive tourist shops though the market they have on a Saturday is great. A couple of hours there is enough in my opinion.
I prefer Hermanus, but then I love the sea ( and there’s wine estates there, Spookfontein and Creation both fab, as well as mountains, walking trails , shops and restaurants!)
There are many wine estates worth a visit around the Cape peninsula , Constanta Glen , Vergelegen, Constantia Glen and Groot Constantia all good. Most do lovely lunch plates to have with your wine tasting, I like breakfast at Groot Constantia, sat under the old oak trees looking at the spectacular view.
Driving is easy , I’d recommend hiring a car though the hop on, hop off red bus make travel around the cape peninsular fairly easy for visiting the sights.
A few highlights and places we love to visit when there,
Kirstenbosch Gardens, Cape Point ( beautiful but pricey to get in, ) Scarborough beach to search for sea urchins and admire the turquoise sea, boulders beach & Simon’s Town for the penguins, a morning checking the bohemian art shops at Kalk Bay and eating fish and chips on the harbour, A drive around Chapmans Peak with Pizza and beer tasting at Aegir Project in Noordhoek , Robben Island, Oranjezicht Farm market every Saturday at the waterfront ( gets busy though so go early if you want to sit and eat) , afternoon tea at the Mount Nelson, obviously Table mountain, sundowners there in the evening is special.
Honestly I could go on and on but that’s probably enough for a week ! you’ll have a fabulous time, it’s the best place to visit.
