Eurostar: is Eurostar Plus worth it?

Is anyone familiar with the comfort of the seats in the different classes in Eurostar? I'm not bothered about the food or the extra baggage allowance, but are the standard class seats reasonably comfortable and spacious, or is it a bit like travelling in a plane or standard class train? Thanks.

I think standard seats are fine. Better than an airline or most uk trains.

Agree with PP: I find standard seats fine and roomy.

Would you pay for business class on a two hour flight. If not, then don't bother paying it for a train, because it's much more spacious than a flight.

Standard is comfortable for me and I have back issues.

I once got upgraded for free and the food was shite.

Having just done Eurostar plus I’ve decided it really wasn’t worth the extra money! Food and drink was crap, seats weren’t much different to standard seats.

LetTheTrainTakeTheStrain · 27/08/2025 19:17

All the seats are fine. I'd only pay extra to travel in Standard Plus if travelling solo and not wanting to sit next to someone.

My dad and his mates did the premium and were handed all the left over alcohol minis when they arrived - so they said it was definitely worth it 😂

I'm not sure about the seat comfort, but plus is much quieter. The food is nice (and I am quite fussy). They did just change the menu recently so it perhaps it was not good before, but it's really good now.

I find the standard class now a bit full-on because often it's full of weekenders/hens/lads getting the prosecco/beers out, or massive picnics, or wahay it's holiday time! Whereas it's a bit more circumspect in plus. (And yes, they often do give you the leftover minis to take away!)

Depends on what it costs extra. £25 - 30 in my opinion for value for money. It's not a long trip. I would go standard on Eurostar and first on GNER for example if at all possible,

I haven't been on Eurostar since they revamped their rolling stock. Circa 2010 the difference between first and second class was night and day.

MinnieMountain · 28/08/2025 06:18

It’s worth it if it’s a bit extra.

I forget the price difference, but I’m in Plus when I travel back on a Tuesday evening next month. It wasn’t worth it for Friday morning out.

Are you travelling alone? There’s single seats in Plus, which is nice.

PermanentTemporary · 28/08/2025 06:26

I love travelling Eurostar and have always gone in Standard, but these days I would avoid travelling on a Friday if I could - the stag parties in our carriage were ok but LOUD and further up the train there was one bunch that got thrown off the train. My ears were ringing a bit by the end. So I might choose Premium if I thought it would be a stag/hen trip.

I agree with this, we did Eurostar plus in 20011 and it was great! Did it two weeks ago - very disappointing. Really gone downhill.
