We’re staying in an amazing villa, gorgeous- no complaints. Arrived on Saturday and no cleaning at weekends, all good.

This morning (Mon) at 9:30 we’re getting ready to go out for the day and cleaner arrives to clean the house (thorough deep clean). At 10ish she asks if she can do DD17’s room and I say “don’t bother, it’s fine and she’s asleep and she’s barely been in her room since arriving Saturday, so still spotless.” Cleaner looks a bit put out but moves on. A bit later on when we’re ready to leave, she says “see you tomorrow!” So I ask if she comes every day? Yes. Same time? Yes. I told her it’s too much and can we do every other day (which I still think is too much) and she says “ok” but is clearly a bit pissed off/put out.

Does anyone else think it’s reasonable to have a cleaner coming in at 9:30 EVERY DAY when you’re on holiday? We go out in the evening and like to have relaxing mornings, letting the teens get up whenever they want (and us). We were off out and trying to get ready and she was in the way tbh. Teens were having a lazy day. This is one of the advantages to a villa over hotel, no schedules. Seems a bit mad to me to have daily cleaning but apparently I’m the only person to ever raise it!
Now worried she will lose out on money but also don’t want the hassle every morning on holiday when it’s not necessary. Villa is modern and easy to keep clean by the way. Every day would be fine if it was in the afternoon (but still overkill) but the morning cleans are a bit much! Anyone ever had this and have I committed a faux pas by asking her not to come every morning?

It’s part of a luxury villa service and a completely normal time
for Europe. What would not be reasonable would be to expect her to come in the afternoon which would be siesta time.

People in warmer European countries work in the morning doing physical jobs from
8 am till around 1pm - they then go home , have lunch and a nap and then socialise / do light work in the early evening .

Perhals ask her to do the communal areas first and not to worry about the teens room.. Enjoy the cooler mornings and sleep in the afternoon !

As someone that always hangs the don’t clean today sign on hotel doors during an extended stay I completely understand.

I’d hate someone cleaning a rental whilst I’m away. Out of interest what country are you in?

I think the main issue here is whether or not it was outlined in your contract for rental? What did it say about cleaning frequency when you booked?

Testerical · 26/08/2025 08:38

That would be an absolute no for me! People coming in at 930 even every other day. NO!

Itt’s not your fault if the owners are too tight to pay the cleaner regardless of whether she actually cleans.

I’d just say no thanks, we do not want daily cleaning, please come midweek and then not again until we leave. This is your holiday!

Was it in the listing? Seems OTT to clean every day, but if it was included then …
However I’m sure YOU are paying a cleaning fee whether she cleans or not.
I’d contact the owner and say you understand you still have to pay but you don’t want her until the end.

All It says on the listing is that it would be cleaned and fresh linen but not how often. We’ve just had a week elsewhere and there was a brief midweek clean and fresh towels. I’ve never had this anywhere else. I’d certainly never ask her to come in the afternoon or change her hours, just not to bother (as I have done). It wasn’t just a quick wipe round either, everything was mopped (even the stairs!)
