I'm hoping to have a short break at the end of next month in Palma. I've only ever flown to the city and never stayed there before. I would like somewhere quiet within walking distance to a beach. It's only me going by the way! If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks MN!

We've recently stayed at the Bon Sol in Illetas & would highly recommend it. It's only 20 minutes from Palma & has it's own little cove. There were a few lone travellers when we were there.

I always used to stay in the posada terra Santa hotel when I stayed in Palma. It’s not the cheapest but it’s centrally located and in a very quiet pedestrian only street. It’s lovely.

Be aware that a lot, possibly the majority, of Airbnbs in Palma are illegal. You can't rent out an apartment without a licence, but people do anyway and hope that the people in charge of enforcement will not spot them, or look the other way if they do, possibly in return for a fee. It's a thorny topic - the people who have been protesting "about tourists" have mainly been protesting about rents, because you a place that rents for €1000/month over 12 months to a local can be rented for €1000/week for 30 weeks to tourists.

Palma itself has a couple of beaches. Neither are the best on the island but both are fine and you can rent sunbeds etc. Can Pere Antoni is right opposite the main coast road, less than 1km from the cathedral, so if you stay in the old town you can walk there. Cala Major has a decent beach with a couple of hotels nearby (including the swish 5* Nixe Palace, if you're feeling flush), or you can get out there from the multicultural west side of the city on the number 4 bus, staying at quirky hotels like Feliz or Artmadams or Can Quetglas. There is also Illetes, just a bit further out on the same bus route, as mentioned by a PP.

When looking at hotels online, note that "Playa de Palma" isn't really part of Palma. It's in the same municipality but it's some way out of the city and it's basically a fly-and-flop resort with not much city charm.

@samarrange Food for thought, thanks. I’m still debating whether to go to Palma, or somewhere else. Not feeling particularly flush atm but I really need a break!
