Greek islands in October

I’ve never been but I’d love to go there and am thinking of a week in October half-term.

Has anyone done this? Would love to swim in clear seas and have a week’s worth of sun before our dark winters set in.

I’d love to hear your recommendations.

Ex Rep here, worked all over Greece from April to October. Corfu, it was wet and miserable from early October. Crete - huge difference, warm and sunny.
Cyprus (I know it’s not Greece!), is far more reliable in October.

@Kerri44 was that last year (2024)? We were there the same week but in the north of the island, I remember checking the forecast multiple times a day hoping it would get better 😞

No, it was 2016

We were in Crete last year for October half term. It was low 20s, we had a heavy rain shower on one day and the evenings were cool and our heated swimming pool felt cool in the evening. But we aren't lying on a beach kind of people and it was perfect weather (warm but not too hot) for sightseeing. One (seaside) restaurant told us they were closing for the end of the season the next day but otherwise everything was still open. We always go to southern Europe in October and I much prefer being there when there are fewer tourists.

Cyprus and Turkey much better bets (but even then, not guaranteed)

You might get lucky with Crete or Rhodes

Yes, we went to Zante/Zakynthos in October half term last year with Tui. It was warm, beautiful and sunny and while it was the last week of their season most things were open and we were able to go on a couple of day trips.

The only issues were minor: the hotel pools were rather cold (but the sea was warm) and the cafes, scuba diving and public loo at the little cove near the hotel were shut for the season (snorkeling still fine though).

I mean from a UK perspective the islands in October are the same temp as most of Britain on a nice summer's day! And with friendly service!

DH and I burn easily so would never visit such places in the summer anyway.
