... what has been their favourite holiday?
Looking for inspiration for next year!
We've been sticking to mainland Europe for the past few years.
Pre-covid we always travelled long haul but want to venture further again.
We've been to East Coast US, Malaysia, HK, Taiwan.
Japan is on the cards already (planning with extended family).

Any suggestions oh wise ones?

Vietnam and Cambodia. Went with a 15, 13 and 10 year old and they all loved it - good mix of interesting history (to them!), great food and something a bit different.

They also all loved New Zealand, but were a lot younger when we went (pre-covid).

road trip! My dc’s favourite holiday was to France and Spain (northern) staying in more unusual locations for families so often were the only kids. Madrid they loved, bar hopping for mocktails and tapas, spa hotels in little towns (very reasonably priced) and they loved having their own hotel room for the first time, extra brownie points then the room had hot chocolate pods!

DD loved California! We spent 2 weeks travelling right up from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Did the theme parks whilst in LA - Universal Studios was a big highlight of the trip

We are a cruising family, Alaska is one to consider. Norwegian Fjords & Arctic Circle.
Our friends did an Amazon expedition cruise with their children and said it was brilliant.

Flotilla sailing holiday on a yacht in the Ionian islands Greece. Perfect set up of family time during the day chilling out sailing to the next destination and anchoring in bays for lunch and a bit of paddle boarding and exploring caves etc so you feel you have seen them and had a lovely time with them. Then in the evening mooring up in safe little ports meeting up with the rest of the boats on the flotilla and the kids all getting together and having the freedom to go off and explore, get ice creams, play pool in bars etc. You just need to get your certificate first but easy to get your ICC first in the UK so you are qualified.

When my kids were that age, we did a Caribbean cruise out of Miami, a few days in the Keys, , then a stay in New York on the way home. My kids loved every second of it.

Not long haul but at exactly those ages my two loved Berlin. Something about the city really caught them.

TizerorFizz · 21/08/2025 00:00

@SunnySangriaPeru. Families worldwide trip was popular with ours . We went to Kenya for a safari and also Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. We had a crewed yacht in the BVIs. They no doubt would have liked Japan.

Following. We recently went to Montenegro and my DS aged 12 loved it. He loved exploring different places every day. Love seeing other ideas!

Thailand. My 11 year old LOVES it

2catsand2kids · 21/08/2025 07:47

My kids loved Thailand at that age (went to Bangkok, Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and Chiang Mai) and we’ve just got back from Saalbach-Hinterglemm in the Austrian Alps which has also worked really well (we went by train which has been an adventure by itself!).

SunnySangria · 21/08/2025 07:49

Thanks for all suggestions, will research and plan.
California and the West Coast is also on the cards.
We also love road trips @mamagogo1

Thailand! A colleague just got back from Malaysian Borneo which also sounds incredible.

A cruise is a good call too- especially if they want to meet others their age as I find their children’s clubs go up to 18 and are utilised.

TizerorFizz · 21/08/2025 08:50

@SunnySangria The USA is very expensive now. We were there in May/June (without dc as they are older now) and really noticed how prices have gone up. Other than petrol! We stayed in fairly modest places and did some self catering. Eating out is 18% minimum tip plus you have tax added. We love the USA and our dc have really enjoyed holidays there (Alaska, Boston and Cape Cod, Seattle and north west) but look into costs because it’s way more than Thailand or Peru would be.

SunnySangria · 21/08/2025 10:38

Thank you for the advice @TizerorFizz really helpful to know.
We have family on the East Coast so hopefully they will have some insider knowledge too!
Thailand will definitely be high up on the list.
