Weight for flight to Australia

Hi ,
Just want peoples opinion please. I'm flying to Australia soon on holiday and as an overweight lady I was wondering if anyone knows how the seat will be for me , the airline Qatar says seats will range from 17 - 18.5 inch but cannot be any clearer. I am 17 stone and 5 foot tall. Do you think I will, A need and extender and B be tight in the seat?

Have you been on a shorter flight at this weight? If so, the long haul will have wider seats and more leg room so you could use that to compare.

My 6 ft 2, 19 stone ish cousin flew over earlier in the year in an economy seat and was ok. They’ll have belt extenders on the plane if you need one.

How you carry the weight will make a big difference. Put two objects on the sofa 17” apart. See how you fit into that gap.

Don’t worry about the extender- the cabin crew will have loads in board and will sort that if you need one.

Have a great time in Australia-the long flight is worth it but it’s not the most comfortable thing you’ll ever do!

You’ll be fine I would have thought, I recently flew Ryanair, so the seats would be smaller and I’m a fair bit bigger than you. It was tight but I fitted so would have thought you’d have no issues. As others have said, don’t worry about the seatbelt extender they’re generally readily available and the staff on board handle it quietly.

Have a look at aerolopa.com. If you can get the exact plane type (e.g., A350-900), which will hopefully be listed on the ticket (because they have to know which seats are available), it will tell you the exact seat pitch and width in each class.
