I’m going to both the north island and South Island from 12th November to early December - I’ve heard all kinds of variations about the weather - what the hell do I pack?

im going to go to cities (Wellington, Christchurch etc) but also coast and mount cook. Thanks!

Layers!
A few t shirts, a couple of jumpers, a lightweight fleece and a lightweight, waterproof, wind proof jacket.

Don’t overpack if you’re travelling around too much. I presume you’ll have access to laundry facilities somewhere along your stay. Perhaps pack a couple of colour catchers for the washing machine so you can just do one single wash, and focus on clothes that dry quickly and don’t crease too badly.
If you end up having to buy an extra t shirt or hoodie while you’re there, it’s not the end of the world and it can be a worthwhile souvenir of your holiday.

Agree with pp re layers. I was in Dunedin in December one year and bought pair of woolly tights as I was so cold. Washed them every night to rewear the following day.

Put some gloves and a scarf in too. Dunedin in December was really cold when I went. Scarf was super useful and I had to wear my cycling gloves but really could’ve done with something warmer. We had a lovely trip to see penguins coming in from the sea, across the beach & to their houses to go to sleep it was absolutely gorgeous x

also pack sun cream!

have a super trip xx

New Zealand in November/December probably has similar weather to the UK in June so it could be anything from cold, wet and windy to warm and sunny.

Therefore you need to be prepared for all eventualities, as you would be if holidaying in Yorkshire in June. Of course, you could check the weather forecast just before you go, but even that could show quite a variation, especially if those places are as diverse weather-wise as it would be if visiting a variety of places across the UK at any time of year.

When I’m on a touring holiday I pack loads of old pairs of knickers (I save them up) and wear them and throw away. DD takes old t-shirts and does the same.

Thank you @Bjorkdidit and @Rocknrollstar !

im beginning to think that im going to have to cover all eventualities. I can buy stuff if need be but I’ll take layers and take it from there. X
