Somewhere nice with NO CHILDREN on a Saturday night.

Any advice?

Have looked at Hotel du Vin but no suites available so want to save that one for the full experience...

I love the Grand Hotel. (Now called Thistle Hotel bristol iirc)

morningpaper · 29/05/2008 19:58

thank you have you been then?

I must admit it is rather pricey

And we've just come back from visiting family in Spain and GOODNESS ME the pound isn't worth a lot these days...

Stay at the Marriott on College Green in Bristol - it is listed as Bristol Royal Marriott. Gorgeous building with fabulous dining.

Another lovely hotel is the Mercure Hotel called Brigstow House - the service is great and really good central location. Within easy walking distance there are several fab restaurants - Aqua, Riverstation, Severnshed - you can get to Jongleurs comedy club, the Bristol Hippodrome.

Hope you have a fab time

morningpaper · 29/05/2008 20:09

I was pondering the Mercure Holland House - hmm Brigstow you say?

Lay back in bath and discovered SUNBURN then found a clearly toxic mole which turned out to be part of the Tracker Bar I scoffed on the plane...

Holland House is absolutely huge, it was the regional office for royal & sun alliance which they converted. It looks on to a busy roundabout, in not a particularly nice area. The brigstow on the other hand is next to Bristol Bridge, with the river running past. Its on a cobbled street and much closer to the centre of Bristol.

Its much smaller and more intimate I would definitely chose it over Holland House.

Bristol is lovely, I live there! what are you doing down there, anything fun?

If you can't find a nice hotel, stay with us

morningpaper · 29/05/2008 20:26

oooo, go to Bordeaux Quay for dinner - totally eco friendly restaurant, lovely view of the water, and glorious food.

Or the River Station is lovely too.

I'm meant to be doing a job application, shout at me if you see me here again!

morningpaper · 29/05/2008 20:46

GREAT THEN SORTED

Have booked with an internet deal via expedia of 119.00 for dinner bed and breakfast for both of us!

will spend 100 on cocktails in bar I expect

it looks lovely

morningpaper · 29/05/2008 20:46

where could we go for a spot of light entertainment or cocktails or something of that ilk

OP posts:
LittleMyDancing · 29/05/2008 20:58

Bordeaux Quay is on the waterfront and there's quite a few bars along there for cocktails, although it is central Bristol so likely to be...ahem....'lively'.... on a Saturday night.

The Watershed bar (also on the waterfront) attracts a more cultural crowd, doncha know.

there's a very lovely place on Park Street called Goldbrick House - short walk from the waterfront and the champagne bar downstairs is great for some swanky cocktails.

Goldbrick House

LittleMyDancing · 29/05/2008 21:01

Also for entertainment there's a hidden gem on Park Street called the Folk House - it sounds all Fairport Convention, but has live music and arts and stuff and it's great.

here

Dummymumm · 29/05/2008 21:32

what about Avon Gorge Hotel or is that too far away from city centre for you? was thinking how fantastic it would be to 'soak' in your own private jacuzzi, mmm...

WideWebWitch · 29/05/2008 21:33

Hotel du vin is fab
The one next to the water isn't, can't remember
will come back tomorrow, got to eat

LittleMyDancing · 29/05/2008 21:33

have they finished the refurb up there DummyMum? heard it was going to be pretty swanky.

WideWebWitch · 29/05/2008 21:56

Oh hi, see you've booked, which one? The Brigstow? When we went the club nearby went on til 3am, the room was small and shite, service was rubbish and it was like being in David Blaine's box - windows to 2 sides. Some might like that but I found it too much as not keen on heights. We had intended lolling about room but went out instead as room too small to stay in.

HDV OTOH, was BLISS. And we didn't even have a suite, just a normal room. Great service, huge rooms, just wonderful.

morningpaper · 29/05/2008 22:07

ARGH well too late we have booked the Brigport

Although TBH as long as we don't have to have sex in the bathroom while the children are watching Spanish television in the bedroom it should be okay

OP posts:
morningpaper · 29/05/2008 22:08

Brigstow yes!

WideWebWitch · 30/05/2008 08:29

Hi, well, I have now read both threads where you've confessed to sex in a Spanish loo.

I hope you have a good time, it'll be ok if you either join them in the clubs or drink so much you sleep through it Was 2 years ago I stayed.
