I am sure there's still lots to see in the USA and many of the people are lovely. However I wouldn't set foot there until they've managed to get rid of the orange clown.
I would be worried about going through passport control. The officers have a reputation for being aggressive (going back years, before Trump) but under the encouragement of the Trump regime they've become even worse, and much is left to an individual officer's discretion. They seem to have the mindset that every tourist is plotting to stay there and work illegally.
Did you hear about the very normal young woman from Wales who was backpacking and got detained and imprisoned in a detention centre for nearly 3 weeks? Because she had arranged to stay in a house sit, which apparently can be classed as work (because you get free accommodation, you're obviously not paid) , although it's a bit of a grey area. She was on a tourist visa and didn't realise. Why didn't they just send her home?
Friend of a friend is a Canadian citizen who wanted to do a simple quick shopping trip over the border. He was asked what he thought of Trump and simply said he was not his cup of tea, but not his president so not his business. Because of this he was refused entry. I have also heard of them searching people's phones, looking for anything anti Trump you might have said. People are taking new blank phones on purpose.
Of course you might be fine and get a reasonable officer but I wouldnt risk it. I also wouldnt want to support them at the moment.
Canada is gorgeous though and the people are just lovely. We went recently. There is so much to see and many varied landscapes, interesting cities like Quebec, Vancouver, etc, gorgeous mountains and lakes. My favourite province is Nova Scotia though, everything is human sized, life is unhurried and everyone is so friendly.
