Taking an 8 week old on his first holiday

Looking for some advice, We are looking at taking our baby to Italy for 3 nights, he will be 8 weeks by the time we go. He hasn’t or won’t have had any of his vaccines before we fly. We’re quite nervous for how young he is but excited to be able to take him away. Is there any advice people could give to put our minds at ease? We would be taking precautions, and know he can’t be in direct sunlight etc, taking a mosquito net etc

Are you for real !!

Chill 😂 she’s visiting family in Italy, she isn’t climbing Kilimanjaro.

OP, it will be fine, I flew to visit family when my baby was just a couple of weeks older. He just fed and slept in the plane, and we had a lovely time with his grandparents. Just make sure you keep the baby in the shade at all
times and don’t let him overheat (rooms, car etc). You could get one of these small handheld fans. Stay hydrated, drink more water than you think you need, and breastfeed on demand.
Italy is known to be very baby-friendly, just ask for help when you need anything.

Both help to prevent little ears from “popping”.

Yes that makes perfect sense. Mine refused a bottle so I didn't want to confidently assert without knowing.

Thankyou for this. I’m worried about mosquito bites as we’ve been to the site in Rome numerous times and have been bitten. We have a mosquito net and repellant that’s safe for the baby but like you say they have babies in Italy 🤣

You have to be very careful with babies' skin but i wonder if you can put a hanky with citronella near the baby's bassinet to repel them (in the same way that you can put vicks on a hanky near a baby but not right next to them or somewhere it might touch their skin). Hopefully someone else can suggest.

Totally agree with enjoying being able to take baby out for dinner at 9 and them not worrying about bedtime routine being off

Mine was under 8 weeks when we travelled to our home country. We went by car and ferry overnight on the way but I decided to stay on as I was on Mat leave and flew back with DC to France and was picked up.
I don’t remember any serious stress and I was EBF at the time.

Forgot to say that I was flown aged 6 weeks to meet family. That was in 1971 and I survived!

Much much easier when they are that little! Babies survive in hotter countries all over the world. As long as you are keeping them out of the sun, you'll be fine.
My kids have been all over from young ages, baby's adapt. Also I'm with you in routines, a baby definitely won't have one that young. Well mine never did anyways but I'm not one for a strict routine.
You'll have a fab time, especially with support from family.

His Nan is Italian so she would be able to translate. Family are out there at the minute so we would be meeting them there

I flew with my first at 6 weeks old, honestly was the easiest flight and I was breastfeeding so didn't need to bring much. We also did a long train journey at 3 weeks , that was more stressful as I wasn't actually recovered yet and had to travel for a family funeral, so it wasn't a pleasant trip. Get a comfy sling wrap and go for it I say ! Enjoy !
