Advice needed- last minute travel insurance cover

Completely didn’t think to update travel insurance with DS undiagnosed condition (has fainted several times over the last year). I thought of it on Monday- updated my travel insurance and thought I may need to pay extra but they have told me his policy may be void as is an undiagnosed condition.

we go oh holiday early Thursday morning.

any advice much appreciated

Buy him his own separate travel insurance, declaring the condition.

@PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister Do you know of any insurers who cover for pre-existing/undiagnosed? I heard that they don’t if there’s something outstanding

im not concerned at all that he will faint while we’re away. I’m just concerned now that he’s not covered for anything else- accident/injury

Are you going on holiday in the EU? (If so, which country? 🙏) Do you have a GHIC? If so, you only have to worry about peripheral things like medical repatriation or you having to stay - the actual medical care is taken care of (in a public hospital).

I had a similar scenario this year - I'd arranged a trip to Italy but since booking and accepting the airline's travel insurance, I'd started investigations into a condition I'd developed.

I rang the insurance company (Allianz) to ask if I'd still be covered for all the usual things but with exclusions around the condition. It took a long time for them to confirm this but they did. If I wanted cover for the condition I needed a diagnosis and until then, it wouldn't be covered. But all the usual perils were covered.

I've since had diagnosis and arranged an annual travel policy with Admiral which was good value and covered the condition. All the insurers I sought a quotation from wanted to know the same things and the main query was had I been hospitalised as a result of the condition - I think my being able to say no made a big difference to the level of risk to the insurer.

If I were you I'd try to get quotes from other travel insurers, you might be lucky

Almost impossible to do a quick online travel insurance policy with an undiagnosed condition - the second you say you're waiting for a diagnosis the web page kicks you off.

Have used Staysure for this exact reason while waiting for a skin cancer diagnosis and other bits. You need to speak to them on the phone. You will get covered but it might cost a bit more.
Call them in the morning

I would also re do insurance for the rest of the family - if you keep the one you have with your son on it without sorting it it'll likely be invalid and insurers will find any reason not to pay out!

Bigroundhead · 12/08/2025 22:23

And just to say with Staysure I was then covered for everything EXCEPT my undiagnosed condition - the suspected skin cancer. But covered for broken bones, a car accident, whatever - the much more likely stuff.

Might be difficult here if you're genuinely worried he might faint and hurt himself while away. But give them a call

BungledBundle · 12/08/2025 22:55

We too used Staysure for my daughter for a ligament injury on which she was waiting for surgery. So she was diagnosed but untreated. I think like Bigroundhead, she was covered for everything except this injury (which was fine).

FoxRedPuppy · 12/08/2025 22:56

Staysure for undiagnosed or waiting for tests.

MadridMadridMadrid · 13/08/2025 00:03

Family members used a company called MIA when needed cover for pre-existing conditions. Not used them myself.

nearlymumofone · 13/08/2025 09:23

Insurers got back and they will cover him. So relieved. I plan to relax and enjoy the holiday now. Thanks for all the responses.

Just take out a new policy - you can get travel insurance instantly and for very little £. I always use compare the market.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/08/2025 11:52

Also recommending Staysure.

Have you used compare the market and clicked when it says - are you or anyone you're travelling with waiting for a diagnosis? It isn't good for that!

Glad you're sorted op and glad others have also had a good experience with Staysure. Have always found them helpful

FakeMews · 13/08/2025 17:08

I see you are sorted but FWIW All Clear and Aviva will cover excluding undiagnosed conditions.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 13/08/2025 17:41

stay sure if undiagnosed
