What's the worst start to a holiday you have had?

Having to call maintenance out within 10 minutes of arriving due to no electricity

i remember once trying to take a groggy DS out for a wee in the middle of the night. Bending down to grapple with the tent zip in the dark I realised too late DS in his half asleep state thought we were at the toilet and proceeded to wee all over me. We were travelling very light and I had no warm clothes other than the wee-covered hoodie I was wearing and the basic campsite had no showers. Fun times.

It's a toss up between:

Checking into our room in New York and finding it filthy and then while I was waiting in the room for DH to ask reception for a different room a mouse scuttled across the floor. We soon got a different room when I called down to reception to report that.

Arriving at a villa in Greece and discovering the hire car could not make it up the very steep drive and then rolled us back down and hit a retaining wall. Villa owner shouted down the phone to the hire car company and a new car arrived within an hour and the original car taken away without comment.

Arriving in Rome to check into the lovely hotel we had booked 6 months in advance only to be told they had cancelled our booking and were full. That weekend happened to be the inauguration of a new Pope and there was a constant stream of Priests checking in while we waited in the lobby desperately trying to find a room in an already over booked city. They had obviously cancelled us so they could re sell our room at the newly inflated price.
