Europe Easter holiday for the clueless

Hi all,
we are currently on a UK break, as all but one of our family holidays have been. Of course we are very lucky to be able to get away but I’m yearning for a holiday abroad like colleagues have - mainly to not have to clean or cook!
DH and I both come from families that couldn’t afford regular holidays and certainly not trips abroad. We’ve only managed one big trip abroad and that was using a windfall.
But I’m thinking that renting a cottage isn’t cheap and then there’s the cost of days out and food on top. So maybe it wouldn’t cost much more to go abroad? We have some savings and I would be prepared to use a small amount of them to cover the additional expense.
it would need to be in school holidays and not too hot (DH and I were both ginger once upon a time and don’t fare well in heat!) but ideally still able to splash in the sea and use an outdoor pool (if there is one).
Due to lack of experience we would both be nervous abroad so if English is commonly spoken that would be ideal, but we would like a bit of local culture too!
Could anyone recommend somewhere?
Thank you.

What about a euro camp holiday. They probably are a lot cheaper than the package style holiday. You can choose wherever you want to go in Europe, Southern France/ Spain would be lovely at Easter warm but not hot. Things to do in site, usually heated swimming pools and they'll be able to understand you!!

For sea-swimming in April you’ll need to head quite far south - Cyprus, Crete or maybe Bodrum in Turkey. Or you could head to Tenerife?

Have you thought about the Netherlands? Everyone speaks English, plenty of beaches, and the climate is good. Try Landal Waterparks which are situated around the country, offer various types of accommodation and are quite reasonably priced. Several of the parks have pools.

Canaries, everyone speaks English and the weather will be reliable at Easter.

Look at package holidays where everything is included like TUI or Jet2.

School holidays will always be more expensive so we sometimes took the DC in term time when younger (but we're in Scotland so no fines!).

One more question please, and thanks so much for the help already.
Would it be best to book in advance or look for a last minute deal?
I would want to use a travel agent as I’ll have loads more questions I’m sure. Just wondering if we would get a better price booking earlier or later as it seems to me we are fairly flexible with plans? (Maybe we aren’t!)

Definitely the Canaries at that time of year. You really don't need a travel agent if you book a package holiday with one of the big operators. You just book, pack your bags and turn up at the airport! Check the pool is heated as not all are and they can be cold early in the season! I'd book sooner rather than later, I don't think last minute type deals particularly exist these days.
