No idea how to dress

I’m a few months post partum with my second son. We are going on a holiday at the start of September. We will be taking trains and travelling from place to place for a few days here and there in the South of France. Here are my issues…. Hopefully someone can make a helpful suggestion or two?!

  • None of my clothes fit me anymore. I’m at least 1 size bigger but maybe 2 sizes bigger on the bottom half.
  • I can’t afford a big shopping spree.
  • I can afford one or two bits and pieces but no idea where to start. I don’t know what suits my new body. I used to be slender and pear shaped. Now I have extra things - a “pooch” and boobs.
  • I’m breastfeeding and still will be when we go away.
  • I spend a lot of time on my feet running around with my 2.5 year old
  • . I’m tall and can look frumpy easily.
What outfits suit my requirements?!

At the moment, at home, I’m wearing reduced leggings or wide leg crops with breastfeeding cami tops. But my bra is exposed so if I go out I put one of my husbands shirts over and a fleece on-top if I need it. It’s not a good look. I don’t want to look like this plodding along the promenade in Nice. I don’t need to be showy but tidy and put together to some extent would be nice.

Some ideas of outfits that will not stand out would be appreciated. I just want to blend into the background.

How about a slightly cropped top and linen skirt or trousers? Co Ord outfits often look nice too and would make breastfeeding easier.
I go on Pinterest, find outfits I like and look for similar clothes on vinted.

It will be hot in September. I would just grab a few floaty dresses from the supermarket sales if you can. With buttons for feeding Summer stock is going fast.
There are loads of smarter shirts and cap sleeved tops that have a bit of elevation. Wear those with shorts or barrel legged linen trousers.

As above, @DroopyEyelids at the start of September it will still be hot in the south of France. Jeans would be a no go. A few cheap floaty dresses will be fine. Honestly, go for comfort, it's your holiday and no one else will be bothered what you are wearing!

Wide leg linen trousers ?
Short sleeved button shirts ?

I am in Nice today...currently people watching while drinking lemon soda. There appear to be two main "uniforms" passing the cafe: fitted short linen dresses or longer less fitted linen/cotton dresses. I'm in the less fitted linen camp and feel invisible in a good way. It's less relentlessly chic than I had feared.

You'll be chasing toddlers and feeding a baby in hot weather. Abandon any ideas of style and go for comfort. Shorts, breastfeeding cami and a linen shirt as a throw over to protect you and baby from the sun is more sensible. Buy cheaply as you may never wear them again.
However I bought cheap holiday shorts in Asda when my 2 were that age though and I still wear them 15 years on!

Vinted?

I've just got back from a holiday. Not France, but we did a fair bit of walking around in the heat. I felt best in mid-thigh denim shorts and a white cotton shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

This would allow easy breastfeeding access, and if you'd like more coverage you could wear a white strappy vest underneath and do one up, one down.

M&S elasticated top partly linen shorts would be good. Next has them too. Plus a couple of white shirts as pp said.
