Advice for teen in Washington dc

We are on the last leg of a fantastic USA holiday and are finishing up in DC after visiting NY and a bit of a road trip around Virginia.

It's me and my dc aged 18 and
16 and this last bit was always going to be more challenging for ds2 as ds1 adores history and politics and will probably just disappear into the Smithsonian and is happy to be left there to meet later.

Any advice for things to do with ds2 would be great. I feel I've not really planned this part of the trip for him. He likes music and wants to go to a Target and other music shop, cafes, shops - anything that's not history!

Don't want the trip to end on a downer for him so any advice would be great!

look into Adams Morgan, which is a neighborhood in NW DC. Also Kramer Books and Afterwords should have a great music section. That’s in DuPont Circle. And it’s a great walk from there into Georgetown.

Definitely eat at Kramer Books but you might need a reservation.

DC is great but so hot at the time of year.

Walk the Mall from Congress to the Lincoln Memorial. Do it early morning or early evening due to the heat but it’s a fab walk. Or even better hire bikes and bike down the Mall to Georgetown. Georgetown is great and there are lots of great stores for teens along M Street. You can also kayak through Georgetown which is fun. Look at Boating in DC at Key Bridge. You can see most of the monuments from your Kayak.

The Monuments by Moonlight walking tour is great.

I know you said no history but the music gallery at the African American History Museum is such a fun gallery. The museum is fascinating for the history of slavery and segregation etc too.

the 9:30 club for live music.
