Just wondering if anyone has visited these islands? Planning my 2026 travels and want to stay on a couple of islands close to the Athenian Riviera.

Bump as I’ve seen references to the islands on other threads, but didn’t want to hijack the thread.

I went to agistri as a teen more than 30 years ago! I remember enjoying it, it was very quiet but had a pretty beach. I’m sure you’d want a more recent review. Plus that’s all I can remember! 🤣

I've been to Aegina and also Poros and Hydra. They are lovely islands - We took a local bus to a local site (Temple of Aphaia) when on Aegina which was fun. We stayed at Aegina Town which was easy from the ferry. I can also remember buying lots of pistachios, which grow on the island.

I went to Aegina in 2023 and stayed in the main port. The buses were an excellent way to get around and taxis were not expensive. The Temple of Aphaia was incredible and the restaurants were all pretty good. Loads of pistachios for sale. Easy ferry from Piraeus after 3 nights ‘doing’ all of Athens. Great holiday!

I've been to Aegina though it was 40 years ago.
We stayed in Aghia Marina which is within walking distance of the Temple of Aphaia. Also took the bus to Aegina town one day.
Like PP we also had a day's boat trip to both Poros and Hydra which was lovely,

We also ‘did’ all of Athens for three days this year Grin Will stay on the Athenian Riviera for a few days next year before heading off to islands.

We stayed in Piraeus for a week in June and thoroughly enjoyed our day trips to Aegina and Agistri although I confess most of our time was spent on their beautiful beaches.

MyKidsDriveMeBonkers · 11/08/2025 08:35

We’ve just come back from Agistri (yesterday!) and absolutely loved it! It’s a beautiful island - transport is easy with regular buses around the island and also some walking routes.

We stayed in Skala (I can thoroughly recommend the hotel we stayed at - let me know if you want to know the name).

There are lots of places to eat at very reasonable prices.

It is fairly small, so if you’re looking for lots to do and excitement it probably isn’t the best place, but for a quiet relaxed holiday, it’s ideal.

Let me know if you’d like to know anything else, but it has been one of my favourite places to go and I will most probably go back there!

rainysummeragain · 11/08/2025 08:38

@MyKidsDriveMeBonkers please share your hotel as I'd love to go to the island and get overwhelmed by hotel choices

Mumdiva99 · 11/08/2025 08:43

30 years ago I took the ferry from Pireus to Epidaurus and it stopped at Aegina and Agistri. I thought Agistri looked idyllic. I have always wanted to go.....

MyKidsDriveMeBonkers · 11/08/2025 08:43

@rainysummeragainwe stayed at Oasis Beach Hotel and Spa, booked through Olympic holidays.

The hotel was amazing - lovely big rooms and everyone was so lovely. It’s right on the beach front - so you can be sat on a lounger by the sea within a minute of leaving your hotel room!

Where did you stay in Piraeus? We’re looking to end our break with a couple of nights before our flight home.

We’ve just got back from Koufinisia, so are definitely fans of islands where there isn’t much to do. Would love the name of your hotel please. Is it possible to walk between Skala and Megoalochori in the evening? Don’t mind the distance, more whether it’s well lit.

Hotel Mitsis Nu - loved it and excellent location opposite the passenger ferry entrance if the port. 5 minute walk to Hondos Center if you are into Greek beauty products!

Any recommendations for hotels in Aegina town?

Athens + Aegina are on my list.

Yorkshireinlondon · 11/08/2025 18:49

On Aegina we stayed at the Rastoni Hotel where we had a magnificent view to the sea and the Kolunna archeological site from our room. It was wonderful to sit there watching the sunset with a glass of local wine.
