'Easy' holiday in Asia

Illness in our family has meant no hols/close to home for the last 5 years. However, family member looks to be on the slow road to recovery. At some point in the next year or two, we are hopeful they can do an 'easy' hol to Asia- to see something a little different. I'm thinking Thailand/ Malaysia/anywhere else? Would need to be a combination of gentle sight-seeing & rest by the sea. Need to avoid internal flights or too much travelling once there.
Any ideas for somewhere we can stay for two weeks that wld offer a bit of culture plus rest. Two adults & two teenage kids.
Many thanks...

I’ve been to Khao Lak with children a few times - about an hour north of Phuket. Lovely beaches and plenty of things to do as day trips. Lots of restaurants and shops plus a few bars, but not a party resort. Don’t think you can fly direct to Phuket but we flew with Emirates and Qatar so we changed in the Middle East not Bangkok.

Phuket, I've not been in about 7 years, but you can fly from the UK via middle east without having to go through Bangkok or take any internal flights. Food is obviously great and there are a few sites to see around the island, we did a few days trips. I think Koh Samui on the other coast is a bit more authentically Thai, but it's harder to get to and you'd have to fly domestically in Thailand or transit in Singapore.

Tui fly direct to Phuket from London. You can book their flights in their own without having to do one of their package holidays

this time last year we went! We were there most of July, popped to Koh Samui for a few days too

After you’ve had a holiday like that…. Where did you go this year and how did it match or are you “ruined””?!

We done a cruise last year. Flew to Singapore then cruised round Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Was brilliant and knew where we were staying each night. Maybe not as adventurous as you’d like but we thoroughly enjoyed it

I’ve just booked for me, DH and our 2 boys (14,18) were flying direct into Phuket with TUI, we’ve got hotels booked in Phuket, Khao Lak and Krabi. All looks easy and very straightforward

Haha! Well I suppose a holiday in Thailand is an entire experience. It’s not the same as a 2 week holiday in Crete or something like that. We went to 3 places in 3.5 weeks, and did lots of activities as well as chilling on the amazing beaches. It’s certainly a proper lifetime holiday with children, it’s not easy not if you get into the mindset it is truly amazing.

Bangkok is fabulous though! If you're thinking Phuket then definitely consider flying via Bangkok and spending a couple of days there. However if not i think Tui fly direct to Phuket a couple of times a week.

Singapore is the easiest country in SE Asia by a country mile IMO having been to Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Bali because it is the most Westernised. But all are pretty easy because they're so popular with tourists.

Malaysia is easy but KL is pretty far from any beach. Bali is amazing because it is small and has so many beautiful temples - much more varied than Thailand's. But the beaches are better on Thailand generally unless you go on to other islands - and Kuta is the Australian Benidorm.

I think with Phuket though you might need to be careful that you don't get stranded in one place with few options to get around the island and visit elsewhere. Make sure there are transport options as taxis (and everything else) are more expensive on Phuket than anywhere else in Thailand.

Not quite so far. What about Oman? Beautiful beach resorts, watersports and sightseeing. As yet unspoilt by mass tourism and nothing like Dubai.

We’re taking our 2 boys 13/18 to Vietnam this summer flying with Malaysian Airlines. 3 nights KL stopover and a week in Hoi An, lots of exploring but a beautiful beach close by for a bit of chill out time. Next year we plan on Thailand, staying in Khao Lak, Khao Sok and flying home visa Hong Kong.

Ive been researching holidays in general as we should be in a position to have a holiday of a lifetime soon. Have you had a look at a rail tour? They often include a number of places but they dont seem too rushed. I want my tour to go to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat.

We have just spent ten days in Vietnam/Cambodia. Hoi An is quite wonderful and next time we travel there, we will try Phu Quoc, an island resort which came highly recommended. We preferred Hanoi to Saigon. Another place I’d highly recommend is Lombok - the island next to Bali, very chilled, absolutely beautiful, cheap and as much or as little as you want to do. We fly to Jakarta and transfer from there.

I spent Xmas break on Phu Quoc - there wasnt a whole lot of stuff to do but was perfect for a lazy beach holiday
