Weekend in Paris - where to stay?

Which area should I look at for a couple, good walkers, keen to see sights and museums, happy to explore different places for food, but not confident French speakers. Not hugely small budget, but also dont want to throw hundreds and hundreds at it...

Proposed travel is via air frim Luton, then would need to get to the hotel by public transport. If anyone can save me a little bit of planning and stress by giving me the wisdom of their experience I would be most grateful!

I mean, if you have an actual hotel to recommend then even better!

I've stayed here before a few times for work https://www.hotelbonaparte.fr/en/ It's old fashioned rather than swanky with the obligatory tiny lift and steep stairs but it's in a brilliant location within easy walking distance of all the big sites.

I stayed in the Tim hotel in montmartre and it was in a great location

What airport do you arrive at? CDG, Orly or Beavais? Paris is small, and the sights are spread out, so you could stay anywhere.

One of my favourite areas is the Canal Saint-Martin area; slightly cheaper than Le Marais, and loads of great shops and bars.

A more 'central/touristy' area would be around Opera, and you could walk to a lot of places from there.

If budget allows, look at Hotel Belloy. Perfect left-bank location.

If you prefer modern with a slightly bigger room, try Novotel Porte d'Orléans. Right above the périphérique but with incredible soundproofing. Skip breakfast as the buffet is not very good and go to a nearby café (or the hotel's ground floor coffee shop) instead. It's on the edge of the city but there are some good bistros nearby and it's about 400m walk to the Métro.

Where does the plane from Luton land?

If you have not already booked your flights, consider Eurostar. Agree about hotels on the periphery near to Metro stations.

Loved Grand Hotel Gobelins. Close to subway, easy to walk to Quartier Latin and surrounded with lovely little restaurants and a few shops, while fairly quiet as well
