hi,
i was thinking of taking my 9 year old ds to see the dr who exhibition at earls court on friday, has anyone been and what did you and think?

also, looking on the earls court site, it says to book online, has anyone done this or can you just turn up at different times and buy tickets straight from the reception?

thanks in advance (hopefully!!)

I love that episode, it's so clever. Poor DSS though really is upset by it. We played with him at first thinking it was a game, looking for the next statue and watching it till it was gone, but he's still upset by it. (whispers they are a bit babified by their mother though) I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. I don't think either of them have been upset by Doctor Who before.

Definitely looks interesting tomorrow. I thought Rose wasn't able to ever come back to this universe

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 11:39

Ahh, well, that's part of the point.... methinks the borders between the Universes are collapsing...

TinkerbellesMum · 30/05/2008 11:44

Ahh that makes sense.

Will be a big discussion on it tomorrow, I'm sure.

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 11:46

Tomorrow is ep. 8 - I don't think Rose returns properly until ep. 10 or 11.

TinkerbellesMum · 30/05/2008 11:49

The teaser showed the episode with her in it.

UnquietDad · 30/05/2008 12:08

Yes, the trailer was for the whole of the rest of the series, not just the next one. They did that last year as well.

TinkerbellesMum · 30/05/2008 12:26

They did it with Touchwood too, showing Martha coming in everyweek until she actually did. Bah, they just like to confuse us.

well we went today, we didnt book on the hotline as when i rang they then informed me i didnt need to book tickets! so we turned up and could have gone straight in, but we went off and gor some lunch (we found a really nice little cafe place in hammersmith just over the road from somerfield, with an italian ( i think) bloke runniong it who was really good and food was yummy, cheap and good quality) anyway, went back to earls court, straight in , no queues and it wasn't packed or anything in there, we wandered around and took our time. ds1 (9) loved it ds2 (2) slept through it all, even the daleks. (which did put the wind up ds1 at first as he wasnt expecting what was coming, we watched it a few times and the screams from a couple of girls who were messing about and didnt know what was coming were priceless)
theres nothing from the old dr who;s only items from 2005, which ds1 did find a bit dissapointing, but he still loved it all.

thankyou all for replying, i normally kill threads off!!

Worley, we loved it too.
And we walked pasat that restaurant you mentioned after having lunch in KFC
What time did you go in? We were told we couldn't get tickets till 3pm. We went in at 10.30 and came out after 12, then spent the afternoon visiting Buckingham Palace and St James' Park.

worley · 31/05/2008 23:06

we turned up at 1pm to book tickets, she said we didnt need to and could have gone in there and then, but after a long journey down we had to feed the boys so went back about 2.30 and got straight in. it wasnt at all busy. so we had a really good day.
went to hamleys afterwards as per ds1's request. then had a long journey home, had to stand for 2 hours holding ds2 as no one would get up and offer us a seat!then got a seat for the last hour. today i can hardly move my arms due to holding him for so long.

dh and ds(10) went this morning as a post exam treat. ds seems to have enjoyed it . They had prebooked but got there earlier and said it was pretty quiet and only really took and hour or so to go around.

Minniethemoocher · 02/08/2008 21:17

Just reading through this thread and it seems that the exhibition is not scary, so I am hoping that it would be suitable for DD (BIG Dr Who fan!) aged 5?

Blu · 02/08/2008 21:29

Probably not to scary f a 5 year-pld, but maybe not interactiv enough - it is mostly exhibits of the costumes, and how hey do the special effects etc.

serenity · 02/08/2008 21:52

DD (4) was a bit nervous of some of it (mainly because some bits are dark and quite loud and she hates noise) and none of them (DSs are 8 and 10) would stay in the moving Dalek section when it got going, so maybe 95% fine, 5% hand holding

Oh, and we went at the beginning of June and there was stuff all the way up to the then current episode on display.

edam · 03/08/2008 22:26

Dh took ds a few months back, when ds was not quite five. Hard to say which one of them enjoyed it most! Apparently there's an escape route from the scariest bit in case someone is overcome with fright.
